I still don't know what the OP is getting at.

Sounds like I lost the plot too.

Either your camera does it, or it doesn't, it's in the Menu if it does!

Originally you said "select" folder and now you are saying "change folder name in camera". Changing the folder name in camera presents limited options and they are discusssed on page 134 and 135 of the manual (see attachment). In short, if you already have a folder 100CANON, the camera automatically increments it by unity and sets up a new folder named 101CANON. If you were to set up an additional folder, it would be named by the camera as 102CANON.

The option to set up folder names is available using a computer, but with some limitations. See specifically the bottom of page 135.

Me still thinks that what Photo123abc wants to do isn't the best way to accomplish what he wants to be done.

So have we concluded that 6D can not do this in camera?
1Ds can, and so can 5DIII. Not sure about 6D.

1D mark IV can set spesific filename, like tongki001.jpeg

5D mark II, 6D, 70D can not change filename

I like that features, make it easy to identify from which camera it came from

EOS 70D x 2 units + EOS 7D mark II x3 units
Newton FR3, Newton modified bracket, EF 17-40mm x4,EF 24-70mm f/2.8 x2, EF 70-200mm f/2.8 x2
Quantum Trio x2, T5D-R x1 + FW7Q x1, CoPilot x2, Godox AD-180 x5
Propac PB960 head x12, PB960 battery x10
sorry, no stupid speedlite from Canon !

Assigning a custom name to a folder can only be done on a computer (see page 135 in the 6D Manual), and even then you are very limited in what you are allowed to customize. You can only add 5 custom characters and they must be alphanumeric (abc and 123), with the only other character allowed being the underscore "_". The first 3 digits must always be numeric, and can never be the same You can not have the folders 100abc_d and 100abc_e on the same card. The second folder would still have to be 101abc_e.

However none of that can be done in camera. You can create a new folder in camera, but it will just be numbered one up in the standard sequence (if the current folder is 100CANON then the new older will automatically be 101CANON).

All of this is available in the manual you should have gotten with your camera.

You are welcome.

Well, almost. You can change the four first characters, and if you use Adobe RGB color space, the first will be set to an underscore, no matter what.

Cameras like the 7D and 1DX have the same option.

Wow, thanks. I've been wondering why the underscore suddenly arrived!
