Issue with the 1DX - No shutter half press, no beep

I did not read clearly the first time through.

If in fact the camera is firing when the shutter release is on a half press, then the button/electronics is the problem IMHO.
(But, it's not mechanical it's got to be electrical if the portrait is doing the same.)

However, maybe we are still looking at having turned off the metering associated with the shutter release. If it does nothing at the half press, how do you know when the half press has occured, and what stops one from getting all the way to shutter release if the half press behavior is turned off?

Hmmmm... if it were me, I'd be testing with a remote cord to see if the behaviour is any different, failing that use a small screwdriver to trigger focus using the N3 socket (gently, gently...)

That's not possible. Not by any setting you can do. Canon EOS cameras always meter at half-press. You can have the exposure locked by that time, so that it doesn't really change anything, but you can never remove metering from half-press.

Not when the camera is working properly.

If I can remember right mine had started doing the same thing, have you try to do all factory reset and re-load the firmware and see what that does..
