Thanks and yes! We were able to do a 10 day trip including the Lochsa and a self support kayak trip on the MF Salmon. All high water. It was great!

As long as you understand how DOF works at 1.8-2.2 vs shooting distance, this lens will perform flawlessly. I highly recomend getting a DoF calculator app for your smart phone.....makes it easy to grasp how far away you need to be to nail the DoF. 15' is a good rule of thumb for 1.8-2.2. :) Enjoy!

It's a great gift! My kit has changed so much over the years, the one constant has been my 85mm 1.8 that I got day one I started this hobby.

This is the least expensive lens I own, but I often pick it up over my other lenses. I don't think much could be improved upon this lens. At f/1.8:
