I've determined the 1DX is the only solution for my needs.

I got a 1DX just because I hadn't had a top model Canon since the F-1.

It was about time.

It feels just so right.

Eh, I could have done well with the two 7D I already had...

Get it. If you can afford it, why not? Life is short.

I decided that getting a 1dx would significantly increase my quality of life, and it has done. The af, clean high ISOs and 12 fps has enabled me to get some shots of my baby daughter on a swing that are priceless to me.

I went from a 7D, to a 1D3 then to a 5D3. I can totally understand what you mean when you say the 5D3 is a bit sluggish. Even the 1D3 felt like a hyperactive cat. The 5D3 just feels like everything I wanted from the 7D and didn't get. It's not to say the 5D3 isn't a good camera because its bloody marvellous. I think it's human nature to want the best. However, it's that want that will cripple us.

I'm happy that I'll get every shot I every wanted out of this 5D3. If not then maybe I need a new hobby because cameras are obviously not good enough lol.

If there was a lot more thought put to these type of decisions there'd be a lot less upgrading going on.

I'll probably get flamed for saying this but a pro photographer is more likely to upgrade on need rather than want.

I might use this lens for 50 shots a year so I don't want a "L" thats $1k+ I picked up the Rokinon for $279 and it does what I need it to do.

I'm forced into situations alot where flash is not allowed and the ISO is 6,400-25,600. Coming from the 6D the IQ handling was great but the 5D3 needs "work". So yes the 5D3 is awesome but it's that 1-2% of the time is all I wish I had the 6D back but I figured hmm.... 1dX is 5D3 + 6D IQ. alot of $ though.

I'm thinking of just adding a 6D to the kit then I can have a two camera setup and be better off with backup.

One day last week I was sent out to get pics of the new Commonwealth logo sign put up in Georges Square in Glasgow. A woman and her man came up to me with a Nikon D3000 and asked if I could take a shot with them next to the sign. I felt like a total dummy. I could not find exposure comp at all lol I nearly threw it at them.

Found it in the end after about 3-4 mins but it was so embarrassing. Stick to what you know, I totally agree. Camera envy between friends is a nightmare. My mate bought a 70D and his files were nice and clean cropped. I couldn't keep the 1D3 any longer.

A couple years back I bought a new (and expensive at the time) 1D mkIV and a 200 f2L to shoot my son's HS marching band. Was it overkill and unnecessary? Absolutely! But I had enough money at the time and I eventually sold both at little loss (if any). My only regret is selling them.

Then again, the cost of the 5D3 + 6D is pretty close to what the 1DX will run...
