Regrets? I regret every lens I spent money on before the 24. This lens is the best lens EVER......Period. Well, for my eye at least. Best thing I did was NOT get a 16-35 and go with my gut and get this instead. It is seriously bad at nothing and great at everything. Low distortion, FAST, Really wide, sharp as crap stopped down, Stupid awesome creativity wide open and flare resistance on top of all that. If I could only own one lens, this would be it after very little deliberation.

Some local street art.

Obviously focal length depends entirely on your personal style of shooting, but if you were to only own one lens, would you not find 24mm a bit awkward?

For my last couple of trips, I've brought two FF bodies with the 50L and the 24L. I just took a look on the server, and out of the keepers from each trip, I'm averaging around 1/3 from the 24 and 2/3 from the 50. In my experience lately, the focal length feels like a bit of a 'tweener – not really wide enough to be interestingly wide, but also not long enough for everyday situations. Although I'm sure as soon as I rotate the 24L out of my travel kit for something like the 16-35 or 35L, I'll immediately miss it, haha.

I agree with all your sentiments. My only regret is not using this lens more - an error I am actively working to correct. In fact, I challenge the idea that it cannot be used for portrait photography. I can be, though admittedly I am not using it to it's full potential as it's currently mounted to a T3i.. I'll get the full frame one day.

Keep the great photos coming.

^ Very nice portraits. 38mm does not distort as much as some people fear. :p They could even be cropped.

Thank you - they both were cropped actually, further proving your point! Been a wonderful walkabout lens for stranger photography aside of course from the heft:)

^ Indeed, well done. Now just swap your 50 1.4 to the 50L and you will fall in love with it. :p
Colors and contrast match the 24L II

I very much wish I could swap both my 50 and 85 for their L counterparts. There are definite differences between L and non L lenses. And because I own one, I want to own more:) As well as a full frame body..

^ You can employ the ever popular: "eat ramen noodles until you own it" strategy.
I would say buy a FF (6D) last. If you don't do a lot of shots at 3200+ iso you may not need it.
