Hey all.. I've shot two weddings as a second shooter and took on my first. I've done other events and lots of family and portrait work. I just delivered 9 teasers. It's a shoot and burn job with minor edits of all and creative editing of maybe 25. These were shot on Saturday. I think I might have them all finished in a week or two.

It was for my wife's friend so I only charged them $400 for expenses (camera rental, gas, lodging). My wife wouldn't let me charge her even though she was willing to pay. At least she let me charge for expenses. My wife realizes how much work a wedding is now. I made her work as my assistant/second. I did it without a contract. My gear is insured at least. I plan on setting up an LLC, getting a business tax ID and using contracts from here on out. At least now I have something for a website though.

I saved some of the top shots for the final delivery, but probably have some of the better ones in this group. I'm curious what you guys do. Do you do teasers like this?

Taken worth a grain of salt as I don't have my first wedding until October(right now), I like them all but the 1st and third one.

1st one is fine for framing, but I don't like the OOF at the bottom - just looks funny, almost like it's too much.

3rd one makes his head look huge and neck really small. Might have posed him a little different.

Keep that salt shaker handy because I don't photograph weddings, but I do have one comment. The shot of the dress seems to show padding in the breast area or at least a built-in bra. I think this is an embarrassing degree of scaffolding to display. What matters, though, is how the bride feels about it.

I like image #5 a lot. It looks so spontaneous.

I think you did very well. As for the dress issue, it is her fault & not yours that the lining shows. I don't think it is the photographer's responsibility to fix their oversights. :)

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Thanks for all the feedback and compliments, guys. Here's one more of the teasers.

Referencing the criticisms...I probably could have dodged the padding, but I did't think about it. I should have also shot it stopped down some, maybe at like 5.6. There's so much pressure to get the shots quickly because there is very little time. I think I will do better next time as I think my nerves got in the way of clear thinking.

I wasn't really happy with the bride portrait either (#4). She got ready in a small featureless bedroom. She kinda expected me to just take the shot and have it be beautiful. They were in a hurry afterwards as well and I think I could have done better if she let me try at it again. We did the 6 poses that I had planned and that was it. They wanted to get to the reception.

I kinda made a big deal about the making time for me after the ceremony. When I was second shooter once, the couple had to be dragged away from their guests for a short 10 min session. It nearly happened again and these are some of the best shots.

A more "flattering" treatment for this "model" would be to shoot it without backlighting. I'm not sure about assigning any fault in this situation. Presumably the bride chose the dress and didn't think about how it looked except when it was on her.

Did you receive any feedback from the bride?

The bride loves them! I'm nearly done with the rest. I'm pretty happy with it for my first go round.
