I'd imagine that the lens that eventually get shipped for current pre-orders would have the new firmware, so hopefully that won't be an issue.

I would imagine so.

The issue I am having with my 7D is when I am in Ai servo and when I point from near to further distance while pressing the shutter halfway it wont focus to the far area, it is not even hunting is just dead but once I let go press again it AF quickly but not tracking. I am really hoping that the new firmware fix this since the tech I talked to last week said the firmware is for overall AF issue.

I tried my 7d last week in this lens during Tamron tailgate tour in Kenmore Wa and I did not see any of my issues above. I forgot to ask if the lens I tried is with a new firmware because the rep is busy explaining himself why there is a long wait on this lens. Cheers.

And what was their explanation?

I was not really paying attention to the guy but I heard him said that the Canon mount should hit the stores again in 2 weeks.

This thread is getting quite long to try to find specific posts, but a few weeks ago somebody was claiming that Tamron shipped lenses during the second week of each month, and that new stock would therefore be arriving this week. We will see.

I talked to a sales rep from B&H yesterday evening and he said that they are starting to come in for a few shops in the region and that it shouldn't be long before they get their shipment.

I am pretty sure the allure of this lens is because it wasn't $1800, but rather $1100. If the price was more than the Sigma 50-500 OS, there would be some on the shelves right now. :)

To correct, you have to send your lens to Tamron for a firmware update, I believe.

Yep perhaps,But as the reviews and the samples of the lens come in I do think that -1100 price may be going up.

And yes on that update, turnaround with them is very fast though 3 days plus ship time.
I am sold on it.;)

The above was written as part of an attempt to waste time.

Good news. I ordered mine from them on 4/1.

Well I caved in and ordered mine two days ago. I hope it will arrive in time for me to use this summer season.

I came across this 150-600 photo while surfing flickr. Looks like the lens does an excellent job for aviation.

I'm guessing his other photos were also taken with the Tamron.

I stumbled upon the same images, among others, and I would agree. When my lens comes in, I'm planning to head to Bradley Int'l Airport. There are a few local roads that a great for watching the planes come in and out without any magnification...so 600mm is going to yield some great shots.

I got my lens back yesterday as well from cleaning/update. Seems to be faster to AF, and doesnt get stuck nearly as much as before it seems like. It still doesnt focus from far/close like the Canon lenses do, but it does seem better. I need to actually get out and use it again to see for sure.

Edit: What I mean by the Canon ones, is that they can focus on a railing or whatever that is 10ft away, then focus on a tree 50ft away in AI servo, then come back again to the railing. But yesterday when testing, the Tamron was only doing half of that. Going from close to far maybe, but not back to close without re-hitting the focus.
