The strange thing is the 2 highest bids are dated June 9. If they (auto bids) were placed on June 9, why didn't they show up then?

That's one bid that you're looking at, not two (look at abbreviations and feedback rating). The prospective buyer placed their max bid late at night during the first day of the listing and it's been on auto since.

Because Ebay may only show max bids for a given user. I believe S***E placed the bid first, then the top bidder U***N that has it right now is the culprit, they put in a max bid of 1775 or more back on 5/9 1am PDT. Then a bunch of people came in over the course of a few days to try to outbid, but the system kept giving it to U***N due to the max bid being so high.

That's why you don't shop at 1am... ;)

So it keeps floating to the top outbidding other manual bids. Make sense. So this bidder is in for a surprise unless some other fools outbid him/her at last seconds.

The interesting thing to me is that this is not just a single individual being "confused" or not reading the listing, there's like what 7 bidders with multiple bids, only the first person to place the original $25 bid realized what was going on (apparently)

I wonder if it will come up as "item relisted" in the next day or two :-)

I think the seller is going to be regretting the hassle that is about to ensue

Looking at the bids earlier, I wondered if a couple of the 0 feedback bidders (there were two or three of them) were sockpuppets of ebayers that knew the score and just wanted to probe the high bid for lulz.

The listing is accurate and except possibly for the title is very clear this is not a working camera. The winning bidder obviously bid without even a cursory look at the description.

... and I'd call a 95% chance eBay refunds the buyers money anyhow. (Plus the seller gets a negative fedback.)

On first glance I thought that the seller was being deceptive and that the buyer should get his/her money back…however after reading the post it's pretty clear that it's not a camera. I don't think the money should be refunded. How else could the seller have sold the product?
