A little bit of overlap..but from 16-24 it's a very different experience, just not sure it's the best option if I intend to only carry these 2 lenses (trying to keep the kit relatively light for travel.) danielmedini.com

I've got this lens on pre-order and intend to try it out in any case, hoping I can get a lot of use for it. I know in having the Rokinon 14mm prior to it, that I was grateful for having an extra bit of width in the pack every now and then. On full frame, 16mm is very different than 24mm, so the lenses serve two different purposes.

Also, focal range overlap is a good thing, not something to avoid, IMO. It means fewer lens swaps, or times where you may only need to carry one of the two lenses.

I wish I could do this for my trip, but I can't swing a 24-70II at this point in time. When I was shooting with my 30D, there was a huge difference between my 17-50 (27.2-80) and my 10-22 (16-35.2). JZP

Then I might get the new sigma 50mm (sell my old sig 50) and be sorted. 5D Mk III (x2) - 16-35 F/4L - 24-70 F/2.8 II L - 35 F/1.4L - Sigma 50 1.4 ART - 85 F/1.2L - 135 F/2.0L - Samyang 14mm F/2.8

That extra stop and the 36-70 focal range go a long way when shooting very dynamic events in erratic lighting. The 24-70 is the more versatile lens and has a lot of uses, whereas the 16-25 has a more specialized purpose. 16-35 is basically a dedicated landscape, venue, environmental shot lens for me. I also really like UWA FOV perspective for the dance floor shots during the reception. The UWA FOV provided by the 16mm focal length is a very distinct look that you can't create on the 24-70. Mystik, I absolutely love your setup. I'd seriously would love to have the same one. JZP

I also worried about the overlap with my 24-105 first, but not any more cuz of this reason. The only thing to worry about is the weight, I guess, if u r like me. When i moved to FF; i sold my 24-105L and picked up a 17-40L + 50L to replace it. Every once in a while I miss the 24-105's flexibility (Traveling), but then it gets dark and I revel in not needing a lens swap. [6D]

For me, the 24-105L is such a versatile focal range for a "walk around" lens that I almost always bring it along, unless I am trying to force myself to work at the wide end only. I have taken only the 17-40L and left the 24-105L at home a couple of times, but only when visiting a location I am very familiar with and plan on going back to in the future.
