Here's what Best Buy's store shows when you look up this lens.

I'm hoping that those of us who pre-ordered the lens are safe!!!

Question... Why would people pre-order with Best Buy? I am just simply curious, I don't have anything against Best Buy or anything... But I assume you would always have to pay sales tax and pre-ordering from Adorama, B&H, Amazon or other options such as PMI Digital, PC Nation, etc... Would be a better, cheaper option.

Does Best Buy often get lenses quickly or something? Or is this just for those who live in NJ/NY and would have to pay tax anyway on Adorama/B&H?

NJ = NO tax from B&H. Adorama = yes b/c that have a warehouse or some facility in NJ.

BestBuy just sold-out of their first allotment from Canon, that's all.

I get my order pretty quick and have 12 to 18 months to pay it off with no interest, plus get money back with my rewards-card.

Anyone else notice the silver box art? All of Canon's older lenses came in a White box.

Yep, Canon is switching all the boxes I believe over to this new design (not just new lenses).

My reply is not intended to be didactic or otherwise preachy - but since sales or use tax is always due, regardless of where the retailer is located, many people just take the sales tax cost out of the buying equation. If a particular retailer (e.g. B&H) doesn't have an obligation to collect the sales tax in a particular state due their own lack of physical presence in that destination state, the purchaser still has a clear legal obligation to self-remit that tax, typically on their personal income tax return. I understand that it is typically not enforced and self-compliance is rather infrequent.

I buy from PMI or the NYC stores for the timeliness and overall level of customer service that doesn't exist at my local stores (not that there are many left other than big box retail).

I also received my receipt confirmation and to expect my tracking number... So it looks like everyone got their stock today and is shipping out! (Through PMI)
