Just in case any of you are looking for the Tammy 70-200 2.8 VC, Amazon has it on sale for $1299 and Tamron has a $100 rebate, so it's $1999 w/o tax :)

Unfortunately, that's sold by "Eagle Camera", NOT Amazon directly.

"Eagle Camera" doesn't appear to be an authorized Tamron dealer.

Therefore you probably won't get the rebate.

Yeah, I made the mistake of buying from Amazon (via another seller). I returned it upon learning it wasn't an authorized deal.

Did you by any chance test the lens out?
I'm trying to decide between the Sigma and Tamron 70-200 2.8 D:

Yes! It was amazing on all fronts. Very comparable to the Canon 70-200MKII. I have another one on the way as we speak!

If I may ask, how much did you get it for? :)
I'm trying to buy one used and I get loads of people selling to me for around 1300 when they've had it for about 2 years!!

1299 - 100 = 1999?
No deal.

I had both the Tamron and Canon at the same time. Only real difference I saw was that the Tamron was a tad slower to focus and that was nitpicking. There was very little difference between the two in focus speed.

Now the Tamron does zoom in the opposite direction than Canon lenses. I sold the Canon and kept the Tamron.

Just bought one that was 2 months old from a fellow POTN'r for $1275. I saw one sold on Ebay last month that was also just a few months old for about $1160.

Keep in mind that Tamron does not officially claim that warranties are transferable from the original owners so that may be a concern for some.

I just went to the Amazon link...I'd suggest going to the "used" tab....I picked up a "new & unopened" copy from Emmy Photo for $1,199, no tax, shipped. They have one left now. I figure if I'm willing to go grey market, I might as well go with the cheapest one, and I'm guessing this is it. The seller has great feedback, and if it doesn't work out, I am protected by the Amazon return policy.

I just sold my 70-200 2.8 MKII for this....I didn't use it enough to justify a $2k lens, so I'll pocket the difference and save it for new toys coming from Photokina. :)
