Went to Cimetière des Gonards here in Versallies and took a few snaps of the WWI and WWII graves, a truly amazing place to visit.

Swerbia - read the site rules about max size of photos - I believe it is 1024 pixels long:cool:

It was increased recently. Many users were surprised.

It's a poignant feeling of distress I have when seeing your photos Stic. They speak directly to the heart so much they are expressive.

A royal tomb.
At the opposite of almost all the kings of France, king Louis XI (1423-1483) didn't want to be burried in the majestic cathedral of Saint Denis, near of Paris.
He chose a little village near of Orléans, Clery Saint André in Loire valley.

Inside the church of Clery there is a monument to celebrate this king, but his body is not under the monument.
He was burried with his wife, the queen Charlotte de Savoie in a vault digged in the soil of the church.
It's very difficult to get a good image if their skulls, they are behind a metal gate at the bottom of a very narrow stone staircase and there is not much light...
The skull of Louis XI is at right, in poor condition.

Bernard, Phil, and everyone else,

Wonderful additions - as always. Thanks so much.

And I must add to Bernard, the shot of Louis XI is remarkable, not in the least due to the extra information you've added.

I had no idea he'd chosen the Loire.

I wonder where my little prince will choose when his time is up......Japan or Europe?! Oh, and his name is also Louis!

Cheers to all,

Simon

My family originally settled in Kentucky where Big Bone Creek enters the Ohio River. In the early 1800s when a family member passed they were buried right there on the family property. That little cemetery is still there today however there isn't much left. Most all of the headstones have fallen over, I think there are two left standing.

Kind of an odd feeling for me to stand in this place. Life's experiences....
