...for a three day event in July I'm needing a sound blimp (or similar) for a 5D III and a 70-200L. I've tried all the hire companies that I can find but no-one has one as it really is uneconomical I've got the instructions on how to make one but my DIY skills are appalling, and that is really my last resort. If anyone has one that they wouldn't mind renting to me that would be much appreciated!

In theory I have a EF70-200 f/2.8L, I am trying to locate it at the moment, its a bit beat cosmetically but good optically, will let you know if it turns up...

Mark, Raw yes. Sharpening I'm not so good at, I can not really see the results in ACR. Why do you ask? Tips are always welcome :).

well many years ago when I first joined the forum and he gave a rule for a 6mpx camera to have the following settings of USM. that's unsharp mask in a nut shell sharpness the edges of any given details in a image.

I have always used a viration on the settings of

Amount ~75
Radius .5
Threadshold 0

since then I have left the radius at .5. any more would to too much and then adjust the amount to what I think looks just right. it like any post processing it's about what you think looks good.

Serious question here...

Do any of you guys want to see any of the images I shot in Japan recently, or is it seen as bragging etc? I'm getting increasingly torn lately as to whether to post anything, in actual fact only really sticking things online out of obligation of keeping the flame flickering on my online presence such that if I ever wanna be a photographer in my own right again, I'm not starting from scratch.

How do you guys feel about this stuff? What happens when you go beyond sharing for tips and learning and just putting stuff on the web for the sake of it? All ego or still worthwhile?

Appreciate any thoughts any of you might have.

Cheers, Dave.

Dave, many years ago I learned a lot from this site. These days even less so. I look for tips or news or generally just wasting time. I have found that most people either say nice photo or nothing at all. Most people never really give any real critique of any kind.

for myself, when I do take a photo, I just post it because I want to share.

Depends upon what you want to get out of your currant photography.

If your looking to sell images commercially or setting up in business and want to establish/confirm your particular style, certainly an ongoing and constantly updated online presence is required.

I don't really see POTN as the vehicle (or the best vehicle) to do this and if you look at Rule 1.1, it wasn't set-up to accomplish this:
"This forum is international discussion forum about photography, photos, gear and techniques."

From what I know of you and your personality and of both your photography & literary skill set, I personally believe that the "Blog" is your best means of putting yourself & your style out there.

How much traffic you generate towards that blog is dictated largely by yourself by linking from the likes of here and other social media like Facebook.

Dave, I would love to see your photos.
Please post a couple, and the link to your website as I thoroughly enjoy reading your comments.

Bragging is fine. I find looking at your photos and reading comments is very entertaining and educational.
