Nice clear shots Mike, what a wild looking bird. it sure does have great cammo, I could walk right on by I would imagine. Great job!

I hadn't even heard of it. Wikipedia (external link) says its related to the Frogmouth (external link). You can tell that from photo 3. It would be nice to know where this was taken.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I was fortunate enough to spend 2 weeks in Costa Rica in April. This was taken in the Osa Peninsula very near the Piro Research Center. I stumbled on this place just wondering around looking for birds. http://osaconservation​.org/ (external link)

What a great find, and well photographed too! I also thought it resembled the Frogmouth when I first saw your photos.
