I have at the most, 5000 clicks on my 60D. Today I was taking some pictures of my daughter and it just shut off. I changed battery but it still won't turn on.
Is there any tricks to get it working or is this a, send to Canon to fix, problem?

Jul 07, 2014 18:15 | #2 Try taking the battery out for 10-15 minutes, then putting it back in, fully charged. This probably won't help, but it is a quick thing to try. Canon 80D, 60D, Canon 10-22EFs, 15-85EFS IS, Sigma 100-400, Sigma 135/1.8ART, Sigma 30mm f/1.4DC, Canon 60mm EFs Macro, Rokinon 8mm fisheye, 550EX flash, Olympus TG6 underwater P&S

I've charged both batteries to fully charged, tried a different SD card just for kicks, swapped lens' just to make sure. -----------Canon EOS R -----------

When I had a Canon 60D break like that, I was fortunate in that the unit was still under warranty. I sent it back to Canon and it was returned from repair in two weeks, working properly again.

Open the battery door and look for an opening in the top, right corner. In the center of the opening you should see a small pin. Opposite the pin position on the door is a protrusion that pushes the pin down when the door is closed. Are both the pin and mating protrusion present? That pin is actually a switch that when pushed down enables the camera to power up. If the pin or protrusion is damaged sufficiently then the camera won't turn on.

Jul 07, 2014 22:23 | #10 Permanent banIt is most likely either the battery door, as John mentioned, or the micro-switch on the SD card door. WARNING: I often dispense advice in fields I know little about!

Since he got a flicker of response when he put in the no name battery, I'd go with the battery door. There is also the possibility that the no name battery itself shorted something out. Mark

There is also the possibility that the no name battery itself shorted something out. The red "busy" light on my 60D flickers when I take the grip on and off, and when I replace the battery. I don't think the light flickering is part of the problem. That is quite normal. The abnormal part is the not turning on. Still, battery door and/or SD door are the primary 'easy-fix' probabilities. medicdude wrote in post #17018002 Same thing happened to mine. Sent it to canon. Bad circuit board. $175. And then there is the next step. That is not a bad price to get a 60D working again. I wouldn't be happy about it, but throw in a factory cleaning/service and it isn't horrible. Check the details on your credit card.
