those nearing 78 have more grooves and songs but are more fragile and breakable than shorter playing 45s

Just remember guys, old folks are like raisins. The more wrinkles they have, the sweeter they are.

I don't know about that. I've met some pretty sour old 'raisins'.

Just an observation....

In the "old" days of film, cameras lasted a decade or more. Many of us old farts passed them on to our children. For example, a '60s camera worked perfectly well in the '80s or '90s. After all, it was the film that carried the details.

Alas, this is not so with digital. Digital cameras change so rapidly that they are truly obsolescent in a relatively short time. Any camera one bought a decade ago is drek by today's standards. Would any of us want to do serious photography with a camera designed and built in '03 or '04? Would you want to limit yourself to a 300D (the original Digital Rebel) or 20D? Or, if you're serious, a 1D Mk II or 1Ds Mk II? Would you want to pass such a camera on to your kids in another five or ten years?

Sigh! Another parent-child tradition bites the dust.

Yes, and a horse was the main means of transportation for the last few thousand years until about a 100 years ago... Would you want to pass on to your kid a car that is 20 years old? :-)

Let's see,, a mate back in Australia has a beautiful fully restored 1978 Porsche Carrera 911. His 'Sunday' car.

I just knew somebody will come up with that! :-) My boss has a beautifully preserved 1987 Nissan ZX 200, and I don't think he is going to pass it on to his daughter!
