How much do you use your 50mm and do you like this FL a lot?
I personally found that I greatly preferred 50mm and shooting 35mm felt awkward to me (still does sometimes with my M). I've found that this isn't uncommon, most people prefer one or the other, but not both. I like to use 28mm (24mm possibly down the road) along with 50mm and then 85-135mm depending on the look I want for the shot.
Don't presume that because many people use it it's going to be the answer for you. The best thing to do is try out the options and see what suits your style
Definitely good advice here. I use the 50 sometimes, but not a lot. If I have the choice between the 50 and 85, I will pick the 85 almost everytime. Shooting food (casually) is the only time I reach for the 50 over the 85 since I can get closer and have the food fill more of the frame. I shoot mainly family portraits and go to a lot of local car shows/meets. I would probably sell the 50 (but who knows, it's so cheap, it's probably worth keeping) and go for the 35 to get a little wider. To me, the 50 and 85 are too close together to get a much different look. I was thinking of using the 35/85 combo on 2 5D's for family portraits and not lugging my zooms with me to shoots. Thanks for your opinions and advice here .
