Buying an used back up camera for a couple sports gigs and I can't decided between a 7D or the 1DM3 - planning to sell within a few months.
Which camera would be easier to sell? Can the 7D cut the mustard for a soccer game?
Thanks for the help to all those who have posted on the treads.

I've shot soccer with both the 7D and the 1DM3 (and also the IDM4 and the 5DM2). Either one is great for soccer. If you already have a 1DM3, then by going with another one you'll have the confidence that you know the system and what to expect. The 7D is very good, but as you lose light at dusk or the end of the day, the focus system isn't as good as the 1DM3, IMO.

Doesn't the 7D produce cleaner pics at higher ISO?

Not in my experience. I give the edge to 1D3 for high ISO shots.

From my experience, a 1dmk3 is losing value simply because it doesn't have video recording. It is only 8mp too. I loved the Mk3 but sold mine when I upped to a Mk4. I intended to trade mine in but the shop wouldn't take another! A 7D appears to have the same ISO capacity but is 18mp. I also have a 50D but wouldnt upgrade to a 7D presently. I kept the 50D rather than the 1Dmk3 as I have lenses which only fit on the 50D.

I had a 7d and it did great for youth sports and even in the studio the images came out great. It does get noisy for indoor sports.

.. It is only 8mp too...

10.5MP
The 1D2 was 8.5MP

I'd go 1D3 for it's AF, ruggedness and identical interface to what you are already shooting.
It's $1K resale value has been about the same for a long time.

I've owned both and the 1D3 is the better camera UNLESS you need video. The value of the 7D will drop pretty quickly with any solid proof of a 7D2 being released.

I have had both as well and would take the 1D3 any day and twice on Sunday. :)

Oops, my mistake! And based on current exchange rates, its worth a bit more in the UK, but still nowhere near what I paid for it!

NO!

While I love my 7D, it's 8fps is great for motorsport, it's ISO handling is abysmal...

I won't use it above ISO400, and even at 400, it's pretty shocking...

Just picked up another 1D3 and the 7D is great but the images off the 1D3 just look sharper.

1D3 No question. I've used both as backups for football and now only use the 1D3. The ISO performance is better on the 1D3, probably due to the larger APS-H sensor.

I had a 50D and was thinking of upgrading to a 7D because it is what I borrowed in the past then I did some research on here and was told to check out the 1D Mk III, which is what I purchased and my work is way better with the 1D MkIII than it was with either the 50D or 7D. I have taken several shots with the 1D MK III at 3200 ISO and while it is a little noisy it is far better then the 50D ever was. The camera is Tack Sharp.
