I hope this post is in right section.

I have a EOS20D and was told by a "Camera Shop" that i can't use a fisheye lens with my camera! WHich i think is wrong

I do a lot of mountain bike and kite surfing pics and like the look and feel of the fish eye lens

I have a budget of around £500

I was hoping i could get some recommendations

Cheers

Tim

Yes, you can use a fisheye. But do not get a 15mm fisheye intended for FF cameras. Get a 10mm fisheye specifically designed for the 1.6x format.

I use a Canon 5DIII and a Sony A7rIII

Yep, there are a number of different fish eyes out there of different focal lengths. If you want ultra wide, the rokinon 8mm isn't a bad choice.

Look no further than the Samyang/Rokinon/Bower/Bell and Howell fisheye lens (it's sold under numerous names, all the same lens). It's sharp from wide open, has great contrast and it's cheap as dirt.

You definitely do not need AF on a fisheye lens, just pick one up and don't look back imo ;)

Have a poke around here if you need convincing https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=835464

It's the same lens under a different name, IIRC.

The 8mm vivitar, samyang, rokinon , opteka fisheye are the same lens. You can get them in US for $200 when they are on sale. On a crop sensor camera, they will give you a 180 degree diagonal fisheye image but not a circular fisheye image. I don't know if they make a circular fisheye for a crop sensor. If there is one, you need to look for a 5mm fisheye and not an 8mm. If you want a circular fisheye image, then a full frame camera and 8mm sigma or canon. But they are expensive.

The cheapest canon dslr is the t3. But it shoots 720p video. Bought new, it's $275 and $300 for camera and lens combo. For 500 bucks and 1080p, the t5 or sl1. If you wait for a sale, the sl1 should be around $300 or 350.

What setting are you using? I get good exposure with my Rokinon 8mm (and my Rokinon 85/1.4,) using the Av exposure mode.
