Yeah lots of people trying to sell 7D at present and hoping to get sell it before the second hand prices drop even more when the MII comes out. Of course sometimes 2nd hand prices don't drop - depends at what price point the MII comes in at (or whatever Canon releases to replace the 7D).

Tools of the trade: Canon 400D, Canon 7D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 OS, Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro, Tamron 24-70mm f2.4, Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6, Raynox DCR 250, loads of teleconverters and a flashy thingy too

Slight change of subject (just a quick one, honest) is your 600 a vs 1 or 2? Contemplating chopping in my 500 for one but the version 1 weight puts me off a bit!

Heya,

I'm using a 600mm Tamron. It weighs nothing. I handhold it exclusively. Sharp lens and inexpensive for what it is. Frame filling on all sizes of birds, large and small.

Ah, fair enough, I thought you meant the Canon prime.

Wow. Lots of used 7Ds are all hitting the market at the same time. I guess they're all gearing up for the purchase of the replacement rumored to be out in September. Canon Direct has dropped the refurb price down to $719 - over $200 less than the 70D and just about $200 more than the T2i. Canon must really want to get rid of them before the replacement comes out. What an incredible time to upgrade from a rebel or buy a backup camera!

refurb 7D at $700 looks good

I think the main reason there are lots for sale because there were lots sold. The 7D had a production run of over four years. (Sept 2009).

I won't be selling mine. I used my 10D for ten years before upgrading to the 7D. (And I still have my 10D). I plan to use the 7D for many more years. I like to get my money's worth :)

7D was a very popular camera and until the 5DMIII and 6D came out it had the best AF in Canon barring their 1D line options. The long production run might actually mean that what Canon comes out with in a MII is tempting to upgrade from - much like the 5DMIII was a big reason to upgrade over the MII (at least in so far as AF was concerned).

I did get rid of mine last year, but it's not until now that I realise how good it was. I have the 5D3 now, but don't see what all the fuss is about with it.

I'm looking for anyones 7D to upgrade from my T2i. Looks like I picked the right time for this upgrade. Although the 60D isn't a bad option either from what I have. Anyone have guesses as to what is in the 7D MII ?

Every body has a guess of what is in the fabled 7DII, but nobody except Canon knows for sure. If you do a lot of outdoor wildlife or sports the price of the 7D right now is something to jump on. I went from T2i to 7D and then 6D. I still use the 7D and 6D in tandem. The 7D is not the best in low light so the 6D takes over in that arena.

To me the perfect camera would be the 7D with the low light performance of the 6D. Perhaps that will be the 7DII, but I suspect the low light performance will improve but not as much as I would like to see. Time will tell.

+1111 on this

I have both as well, and they each serve their purpose..Wish the 6d had the sync speed of the 7d...;)

Assuming that the 7D replacement is a meaningful upgrade, I was planning to sell my 7D, but I think that I might just hang on to it at these prices. I like the idea of putting Magic Lantern on 7D, although it is taking ML forever to come up with a stable version for it. It might not happen.

When you say "stable" vs. what about is it not stable? I have ML on my 7d and only use a couple features, but have never had a problem with it. But I've also never used ML on any other camera so it could be that I just don't know any better since I don't have a frame of reference

I know nothing about magic lantern. Can you explain what benefits it has with a 7d? I was thinking of picking up a 6D but just don't want to lose the great AF capability and FPS of my 7D so will likely just hang on to mine given the collapse of its resale. Mine is mint.

Since I only use the inter****** meter.. why can I never spell that word. and have played with the focus peaking I'm definitely not the best person to answer your questions. There is a HUGE thread on it here. or just google Magic lantern for their website. I don't have the links bookmarked on this computer others wise I'd include them here.

It doesn't take anything away from the 7D or any camera as far as I know

ok here are a couple links
