I'm with Harold on this one. You put those features in a crop camera and it will be 5D3 money. I can't see Canon putting 1DX AF in a crop body when they didn't give it to the 5D3. Personally, not in the market for a body, but if I was, having shot the 7d, they better focus on fixing the noise problem or I wouldn't even consider it - 1DX AF or not.

For the 7DII, I'd expect 10FPS and 24Mp.

But, I think this teaser is for a lens, not the camera. The ad says get your camera ready... Something big is coming.

It will have 1D form factor, i.e. built in grip! :p

Consider that most of the tech of the 1Dx is already developed, its possible that they already got the cost down on the manufacture of he 1Dx parts, shutter, Af, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if Canon can fit A lot of the 1Dx in there at this point. I think that they can manage it and still have it under $2k.

As a Nikon loyalist that would never switch..I hope you guys get it and its awesome.

Then just maybe Nikon will get off their ass and give us the D400 ..which of course will kick Cannon's ass :)
Gary

Sure maybe Nikon will but that all depends on Sony and when they can make a sensor to put into it ;)

Not sure they could cram all those focus points (or need to for that matter) into a cropped sensor but I could be wrong. 19 points with a slightly better autofocus, 1 stop more of dynamic range, 22-24MP, 9-10 FPS and 2 stops better ISO with a 300,000 shutter life and I'd be a happy camper. Oh, and make a M RAW of about 14 MP so when I shoot sports it doesn't take up so much file space.

I see that some complain about the 7D's autofocus but I've not had a problem with mine as long as I'm accurate as to what I'm focusing on.

I can't see Dual card slots, but I can see 5D3 focussing.

12fps never ever - 10 at the most.

ISO good to 6400

Tilting screen I can see and built in WiFi but no network port which is a pity.

I don't mind the wifi but the transfer rate is crap. I would rather have GPS than wifi.

One of the advantages gps gives is updating the camera date/time. If your at an event you can geo tag that one photo, turn it off and then your good to go.

If reusing a full-frame AF system on a APS-C body, that would require them to keep the same AF point spacing. So you would get too much spread between AF point.

And when changing the AF point positions, then they need to adjust all software to adapt to the changed beam angles for every lens.

So reusing an AF system when changing image sensor size isn't so easy.

How can the 7D improve ? What can Canon do to please the masses ? FPS they already have in the 1Dx, tilting screen, GPS, WiFi, dual slots, touch screen etc, they're all there in other models. Its the sensor the masses want.
Have Canon got the sensor tech ? If they do have it, what about the 1,5,6 series. It could be priced against the 6D but not the others. So where does that leave Canon room to slot it into. The afore mentioned features will not be revolutionary, they already exist. A few stops of ISO will be a huge leap for them on a crop considering the 70D is what, a half stop after 4/5 years ?
I waited 2 years for this camera before moving on to Fuji, I hope I'm wrong for the birders who want to upgrade, but I just can't see where it can slot in without it being a lame release ? ? ?

Besides a newer sensor, the 7D do need a newer AF system. It's irrelvant what AF you have in a 1Dx - that's a different model range with different audience.

And next thing is that the smaller mirror and smaller shutter travel distance of a APS-C body can allow even higher frame rates than the 1Dx. Given similar mechanical performance as the 1Dx, you could reach maybe 15fps with an APS-C. But fast frame rates are only meaningful with fast AF.

I would be very surprised if a 7D2 doesn't have a drastically improved AF compared to the 7D.

I agree it is the sensors everyone wants the most. I hope they do have the tech. Canon seriously needs to show it's dslr community that it can stand up to the competition. If the 7d2 has an awesome new sensor it will give hope to all the Canon shooters out there that good things are on the way.

Nikon went the other way and put the AF system from the D7000 into the D600, as did Canon with the system from the 30D into the 5D
