It is indeed a Green Heron.

I've seen $600 for a used one. I think that was before shipping.
Normal seems to be about $650 right now for used which is what makes the Canon Direct price so nice. You get a full refurb (like new) and a 12 month warranty.

I didn't notice earlier that this was a temporary sale however. That's apparently been going on for 4-5 days so I wonder if that's not what prompted the sell-off. People saw it drop so low and figured they would sell theirs before it got any lower. It's quite possible that this is a fluke and the price will pop back up to $750-$800 for used shortly.

It started about 6 days ago. Canon might extend this depending on their stock. If they indeed have a 7D2 sitting around, they certainly wouldn't want this stock sitting around.

They'll probably do a similar discount again IF a 7D2 materializes. I remember the refurb store doing something similar with the 50D after the 60D was introduced. I believe B&H and Adorama were selling their refurbs for right around the same price as well.

Regardless of what features the anticipated 7DII has the 7D is still an excellent camera and will continue taking good shots, in much the same way as my 350D does which also didn't suddenly turn into a doorstop when I bought my 7D.

Many will have to have it because it is the latest, not necessarily because they don't produce good shots with existing kit.

"Mark 1"! At the moment it is the only 7D.:)

Lol yea, but signs (rumors and falling prices) are pointing to a Mark II in the future. With any good Canon body, I'd imagine there to be a second iteration.

It is also rumored that when the new model comes out that the old 7D image quality will spontaneously drop by two full stops.

what type of bird is that? i saw one yesterday for first time....

That would be a green heron. I don't have any great pictures of them because they are very wary of people. We used to have some at ouor little lake about a hundred yards from where I live, but the combination of a severe drought and gas well drilling has caused loss of habitat. Here is one of the few that I have.

The 7D Mark II is already here, and it is the 70D.

This statement is about as relevant as saying "the 5D Mark III is already here, it's called the 6D." (Speaking before the 5D3 was released of course.)

Obviously you've never used both cameras. Use the 7D a lot for one week and then use ANY XXD camera. You will be baffled with how difficult the controls/ergonomics are. This and the speed is still why the 7D is still so popular today.

The 70D and 7D have nothing in common except they're both APS-C.
-Different MP
-Different build
-Different fps
-Different controls
-Different video features
-Only one has built in wifi

If you feel the need to compare the 7D to another camera that is currently released, the 5D3 would be the only one possible to compare it too. Their ergonomics are both very similar, and they are both the easiest to use Canon DSLRS on the market IMO.

I sold mine for 650 and am picking up a 70D on monday. Thats the only reason I sold it, mine was at around 70K on the shutter. And I want SD cards again. Even if/when the 7Dii comes out it will be out of my price range.

So the best time to sell is ASAP and best time to buy is in September. Sweet.

The ergonomics are easy to switch between the 2, just a little muscle memory. Not that big of a deal. And other than build quality, there is no comparison between the 7d and 5D3. 70d and 7d is the correct comparison and much more fair as an overall comparison.
