Automatic Lens Correction Software???

Hello All,
Is there a free or inexpensive lens correction utility, such as PTLens, or a plugin for DPP or Photoshop Elements that will apply corrections automatically?

I would like something that could automatically correct barrel distortion with a Canon 40d and 18-135mm STM lens. The 18-135mm STM is a great lens but the barrel distortion at 18mm is quite pronounced.

If you shoot in RAW then DPP is capable of doing this for you.

Take a look at DXO's ViewPoint 2. Download the fully functional trial version to try.

It's built in (no plugin required) for many lenses.

Also on the DXO website is their flagship product DXO Pro. In addition to automatic lens corrections it also does RAW processing and denoising. I consider the denoising to be excellent, however, I have not compared it to the many other software products available.

Unfortunately it is currently $169USD, but they often reduce the price to $99.

Just the basic lens corrections (like in PS).

There is a barrel distortion correction tool in Elements. I use PSE10. Open the image in PSE, go Filter - Correct Camera Distortion - the top slider, Correct Distortion

I use DPP to do this as a standard part of my workflow (using the Edit Tab "Lens Adjustments"). Our Forum member, Yves', plugin, DPP++, makes this process even easier.

This is not correct. DXO Optics Pro is the raw converter from DXO. It includes optical distortion correction for a specific camera body and lens combination if their correction modules support the combination (you are prompted to download the module the first time you enable an image with that combination). DXO Optics Pro also has perspective correction tools (keystoning, etc.) as well as volume anamorphosis correction.

These tools all originally existed in DXO Optics Pro and eventually were made into the standalone/plug-in tool that is now known as "Viewpoint 2" (the original Viewpoint did not include module-based optical corrections). This was likely because people wanted the correction in DXO Optics Pro without having to use DXO Optics Pro as their raw converter.

Using DXO Optics Pro 9.5.x will permit automated optical correction with the added benefit of an improved workflow with Lightroom, if that is where you would like to perform your raw conversion. You can set up DXO Optics Pro to automatically apply the optical correction associated with the camera+lens data in the EXIF and then handoff the corrected images to LR for further processing, in the form of a DNG.
