Every week we select a new theme, and then go out and shoot that theme. This weeks the theme is Textures. As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

Show us stuff that has Textures..!

Here are the rules:
1. Shots need to be taken between Monday posting and the following Monday by Sunset (Whenever that is for you ). Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Snapshots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
2. Post your shots at any time during the week.
3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e. embedding them), but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the size rules can be found here: IMAGE POSTING RULES
That's it! Have fun! As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.
An index to previous weeks can be found here: POTN WORLDWIDE PHOTO WEEK INDEX

That's it! Have fun!

Was too busy to contribute last week, but here's hoping I can find more time this week.

This week's topic has plenty of scope...tonight as I walked the dogs the wind was gently roughing up the waters of Nelson Have, creating some pleasing textures...

Then in the fading light I bypassed the ISO limits on my camera and shoved it up to H2, ISO 102,000. I've never done that before as I really have no idea what it could be used for except maybe surveillance...and creating texture!!

Glad to see you posting and being the first again, Richard!!

Love the water shot. The second shot is very clever and I can honestly say that I never said this before, but: great looking noise! :)

My beloved carpet. I bought it 20 years ago and I am still in love with it!
I decided to use the 50mm wide open to have the texture stand out amidst the non-texture. Not sure if that was such a good idea...

An oil painting laid down at the window so there's not much to see, except textures.

Ricardo222, the water showed a beautiful texture :)

Levina, great textures but the first one has the better texture and color (especially for its age  )

Thanks Levina. Yes, that noise is quite unforgiveable really, but it seemed like the one chance I might ever have of using 102K ISO!

I like both of your shots...is that a Gabbeh rug? Great colours.

Thanks, John and Richard.

Richard, no it's not a Gabbah rug. I wanted one but couldn't because I am very allergic to wool. So I spent months looking for a non-wool lookalike. But a great many shout "I am artificial" and have a nasty glare as well as well as filled with static electricity so your feet get prickled every time you walk on them. But this one is different: very expensive, but it looks and feels like the real thing. It even gave off wool-like bits of fluff the first years! :)

John, good grief, isn't that just about micro?! :D
A great shot.

Understood. I'm so glad I'm not allergic to wool...in fact, in NZ it would almost be unpatriotic!! :D

LOL.

However,

if being allergic to wool is being considered almost unpatriotic in NZ, I dread to think what being allergic to kiwi would mean! Oh dear...

It's true though, I'm allergic to kiwi too.

A rough thing and a smooth thing. These aren't much as photos, judged on artistic merit or technical quality, but they meet the stated requirement.

Rough thing: traffic barrier

^^^That is a very serious looking traffic barrier!

I've been shooting these guys for the last week or so, and finally was able to capture the beautiful texture of a Tui's neck feathers to my satisfaction.

That's lovely, Ricardo. Your part of the world has so many exotic birds, or so it seems from here. Do they seem ordinary to people who live there?

Thank you Oh. Our New Zealand birds certainly are interesting, but mostly they are quite drab in their colouring and quite shy by nature. There are exceptions, like the Kea, our mountain parrot who is not shy at all and who, although greenish in colouring has bright orange feathers under the wings. But in general we tend to look in awe at the variety and diverse colour of birds in other countries!

We don't have hummers or jays or the great variety of bright coloured birds I see in this forum, and we have many introduced species. But to answer your question, I think that the tui and the fantail both have a special place in most people's hearts.

That you Levina...that means a lot coming from such a fine bird photographer.

As a matter of interest, taking these images is quite tricky as the birds are so shy and hardly stay still for a moment. Easy to get shots from inside my office with a 300mm lens, but there's a limit to how much detail will survive a major crop. But the 600mm lens has such a narrow DOF that there are plenty of shots with the eye sharp but the neck feathers nearest the camera slightly blurred. Closing down the aperture just means longer exposures, and the birds move too much for that. But every now and then it just come right, and this image has survived cropping from the whole body image of the original.
