Looking for a little advice/insight for an upcoming safari in Kenya and Tanzania on the 1st of September. Every website I have looked for a Tamron 150-600 has been out of stock. Only one website offering a pre-order has listed a date (mid-August) of when they may get more in stock, but that doesn't seem certain.

Do any of you have some inside scoop on when Tamron will have more back on the market? I want to take kit with me that has some reach and this lens seems to be a very good value for what it delivers. I am tempted to get an extender for my 70-200L II in the event Tamron doesn't release any within the next week or so, but I would rather roll with the Tamron if I can get my hands on one.

Thanks in advance for any pertinent information you may be able to provide me. :)

I too am going to Tanzania and want this lens before I go. I have several extra months to wait, I'm not going until mid February. I'm hoping by then I can get one, if not I plan on renting one instead, maybe check that out.

By watching the Tamron 150-600 poll on this site as well as other discussions it seems that there is some activity around the second week of the month regarding people receiving their back-orders. Then the discussion seems to fade to the use and reviews for a couple of weeks.

My order was placed with Adorama on April 6 and I received my monthly back-order notification yesterday.. :(

BTW.. This will be my last order with Adorama. Not because of how long it's been ordered, Shoot it's just hard to get! but the underhanded way they dealt with my trade in of a Canon 2X III multiplier.

There was a guy on this site with one to sell several days ago. Don't know if he still has it.

Here in the UK Lenses for Hire have the 150-600 available to rent (external link). I know that you are in Belgium but they may be able to help you out. I have just ordered one from them for the weeknd of the 16/17th of this month. At least you would know if you could have one for the trip.

I just a minute ago got a notification from New Egg the lens will ship in 24 to 48 hours. What ??? This was less than a month's wait time. Perhaps good news for everyone on a waiting list...

should have read up on the other tamron threads. BH = much more reliable when it came to these orders. I ordered about the same time, received the lens a month ago. ~3 month for BH, and that's for a lot of folks. Adorama... 5 months or so? something ridiculous, but you should be closing in at least.

Yes Charlie, hindsight is now 20/20.. Something must have happened on the corporate level with them since it even takes them longer to receive the equipment. In the past I had excellent service from both Adorama and B&H, I was offered a little bit more for my trade in so I opted for Adorama.

Originally with the thought in mind the back orders would be around a month I sent a Canon 2XIII teleconverter in as a trade-in. After a couple weeks it became apparent it was going to be closer (I thought) to three months wait. I asked to cancel the trade of the teleconverter.. No can do, they had sold it, without the original transaction being completed. Not illegal I suppose, but not the kind of business practice I want to deal with anymore.

I think I'll go ahead and put my order in the que at Midwest Photo in Columbus, OH and Newegg..

So you expected them to just hold a trade in that you sent for some length of time? That doesn't sound like a problem at all, it sounds like your expectations are out of the realm of reality. I do not know of any company that would just hold your merchandise indefinitely. You sent it in for a trade in and that is exactly what they did.

yeah, it's kinda dicy. it definitely doesnt fall in order with the charge when the order arrives standard that everyone uses. They really should have waited before they consumed your item, just like they have to wait for payment when the item arrives.
