Good news!! Went back to the shop yesterday and tried another copy. Much happier now :D

I was only a small difference, but definitely different and enough to give it just a nice bit of pop.

Really like the size and feel of it. After being a faithful owner of the nifty for a few years I was worried this 35mm might also feel a bit light, but I'd say its just about perfect for my intended use, which will mostly be pics of my 14 month girl darting around the house!!

From much research before buying I was hoping the 35mm range and the f2, would give a real 'in the picture' feel to it, and it definitely does that, especially portraits at f2, really love it. For me I definitely don't need f1.4, that's quite specialist stuff IMHO.

I will post some pics when I can grab a spare minute, but the better half doesn't like me posting many pics of our baby girl on Flickr which I understand. Will post what I can tho.

Thanks again for all your responses to my first post. Happy bunny now!

Nice one, glad you didn't give up on it. I don't use mine as much as I should at the moment, but everything I've used it for has had that "pop" to it. Something my 50mm f/1.4 never gave me.

hello mates,

in april i've purchased this lens brand new from the local retailer and i was very very happy with it until recently when something has gone wrong with my lens.

please look at the bokeh at this picture posted here https://photography-on-the.net …?p=17020347&postcount=844

and then please see my photos. i noticed this only recently, the lens was my fav these months, so i estimate an ammount of 2-3000 photos taken.

first photos are older, with nice looking bokeh, the last ones are ... dunno how to say, its like the light goes from background in front of subjects.

so at the end, is it me or my lens somehow needs a warranty visit ? :)
i handled it with care, no hit what so ever! first photos with filter on, lasts even without filter ...

good bokeh :

Sorry to hear about that.
I can see what you are you talking about. My first thought was dirty filter or dirty glass, but these are too obvious to miss (and you stated the last were without filter anyway).
Have you checked both front and back elements for smears etc?
Maybe try without IS on (just a wild stab in the dark), just to eliminate as much as possible.

Thats all i can think of. Hope you get it sorted quickly.

I see you used my photo as your example lol. Do you shoot in RAW? I can't see anything really wrong with your image either but there are several factors that effect the bokeh in an image. Subject distance can determine the quality of the bokeh balls which may be what you're not happy with.

Also when I process my images, I make sure to only sharpen the in focus areas and leave the OOF areas as smooth and natural as possible.

Thanks 2cruise and Dave :D

Trancerem, that lighting issue does look odd. I don't know what it is and I'm no expert but what I'd suggest if you haven't already; it could be just a strange flare from that type of lighting. Does it happen with this lens on different types of lighting, natural and artificial? Can you get back to the same place to see if that lighting reacts the same with any of your other lenses. That should at least help you identify the problem.

When it happens again try it on a few different apertures, see if it gets better or worse.

At least then you'll be able to clearly communicate (and prove) the issue to your local camera store. From my experience if you go with all the facts they will give you a better service.

It looks faulty to me but it could maybe just be a strange reaction to that type of lighting. My suggestion is gather as many facts as you can and then get back to the shop. Good luck.

sorry for not answering, but ain't got much free time these days.
i-ll do some more indepth test and post results here.
but, from my gearlist only this lens does this strange "splash" bokeh, every other lens i use it does normal bokeh (17-35 sigma, 24-105 L , 28-135 IS, 100 2, 70-200 4 L )
thanks for the advices and i'll keep u updated :)
