Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM (Art) is finally here!

Thanks to this thread, I made an impulse buy yesterday and bought this lens from B&H. Should get here Monday, then I'm gonna have to decide if I stick with the 35 Art or switch to the 50.

Damn... If only Sigma can stop the crazy AF shift in artificial light. That was the ONLY flaw of the 35 art, but enough that it has put a sour enough taste in my mouth from trying another (I tried two), until I hear otherwise. And I have read a few recent reviews still talking about that issue on brand new 35's... So I guess it has not been fixed/solved yet.

Bummer... Because this 50 looks like it will be so good.

The AF issue in artificial light was the same as with the previous version. On my 6D, the previous version is spot on and tack sharp wide open in natural light but with certain indoor lighting it becomes incosistent. My friends 35 Art has focus issues in both natural and artificial lighting but he still loves the lens.

Picked up a copy of this lens and crikey it's a great bit of kit. I have been using the Sigma 35mm Art for product photography so I can see the 50mm Art being used for the same sort of thing. It is really sharp. I haven't had chance to play around with it wide open much but I did shoot my kitty with it stopped down earlier and the results are brilliant. The image is pretty much SOOC except for a little exposure lifting in darktable.

hi, need some help about calibration with the usb dock. i have two cameras, at the 0.4m and 0.7m distance both require the same calibration, at longer distances not soo much unfortunately...but thats another story.

i had no problem calibrating the lens at 0.4, 0.7, 1.5 meters. current values are +7 +2 +4, consistent test results. infinity im not too sure about...currently it is at zero, seems ok at really far distances. however between infinity and the 3rd value, im getting backfocus issues. at around 3meters distance...it backfocuses consistently.
i read somewhere i should try to shift the inifnity value closer, so it will change the inbetween values...tried it at -5, however it will make the real far distance images blurry...but i kinda use the lens more at around 3-10meters, than at 30meters...

any ideas? at what distance do you guys calibrate the infinity value? should i start with the infinity and the mfd than the 2nd 3rd values?
