Sorry if this in the wrong section but I took these pics a while back on my G15 at Buttermere in the Lake District. I took a few snaps of this classic view and then asked my daughter to step in for a few. When I uploaded the pics to my PC I saw this strange object in the sky and because I don't remember seeing or hearing anything at the time, it freaked me out a bit to be honest. I've asked around and haven't as yet had a credible explanation so I offer to you guys - any ideas what this could be?

Looks like a new fangled fighter with a slightly noticeable tail assembly, but you say no noise. Are you near an airbase?

It's definitely not a plane ericcrazyman although there are a couple of RAF airbases within 100 miles - I would have heard the noise and looked up. I took a sequence of 3 shots in quick succession, the image is only on one. The only thing I can think of is some sort of drone, I dunno, it's baffled a lot of people.

Some think an insect, others a phenom called a "rod" -

I go for an insect.

Not sure how many of the above posts are tongue-in-cheek, but I'd go for non-adhering detritus floating around near the surface of the sensor. There in one shot; gone in the next. Or am I being too literal?

Not at all Wallace, it's only on one of the sequence of 3 shots :) That doesn't really explain how it's lit though, or does it?

I'm flailing, and out of (sensible) ideas.

How about some weird low-level diagonal flare from the shadow/highlight area of the water? A one-off conjunction of circumstances? Some person better qualified in optics might want to comment on whether it's possible or completely silly?
