Can you guys start putting what adapter you're using as well?

I've used both the commlite and viltrox, both without any issues. commlite looks like the better made adapter and only $90 when I bought it. I'm sure it works with all my lenses, tried the 50 and 135 no issues. viltrox works with 85, 135, 50, 16-35F4, so far, no issues.

unfortunately looks like commlite jacked up prices a bit: http://www.amazon.com …age_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (external link)

I know there's been a lot of discussions already in any forums on using UV filters. A lot of guys don't. The reason mostly is "why would we use a cheap glass on top of a very expensive and sophisticated glass.

I finally ordered the FE70-200 in my route to go all native lenses. the FE70-200 already has Nano AR Coating technology. So i figured maybe a UV filter is not necessary when speaking about suppressing reflections and flares. But then for the protection perspective, this glass is so precious and expensive for me. I'd rather maybe buy a BW UV filter glass for protection.

your thoughts on this please? thank you.

Yeah, i never use any UV at all, but, thinking about that, and there are many cheap UV, s i might buy some for all my lenses except those are non-thread filters lenses, so i can give a protection or a bonus layer of protection to my lenses in addition to hoods, who knows, maybe sometimes hoods can't handle most impacts and the front glass element is one important thing as internal parts.

I buy a very high quality thin UV filter from hoya. When i go on vacation i tend to shoot on beaches. With ocean spray i do not want that falling on the lens directly. It can eventually cause damage. A hood can not protect the lens in such a situation. At the same tame i have never seen IQ degradation due to the UV filter.

i just bought the B+W XS-Pro Clear with Multi-Resistant Nano Coating (007M)

it's the one without the yellow tint(010M).

Even with the hood(which i'm always using 100%) sometimes when putting the lens cap and it won't straight up right away, the side/back of the lens cap is not that smooth. i thought it might cause a scratch and will devaluate the value of our lens.

i have a lens with a less than a millimiter scratch in the glass. Too small that i didn't even notice, the buyer returned the lens.

yeah it's a pain keeping unprotected lenses in top condition. Found out my budget zoom had a micro mark on the lens coat. thankfully, I still sold it for asking price and even disclosed the issue.I still have protective filters for a few of my lenses, but under direct sunlight, IQ degradation was noticeable so I got rid of it and just take the risk. Lens cap issue, I just double check everytime I put it on. It is a hassle, but I gotta have the best IQ. There's a much bigger concern with wide and ultrawide lenses that offer very little protection. Any 70-200 lens will have very good protection from the hood.

Just sold 5DII and a couple of lenses to a good friend of mine. Enough to fund for A7R, Metabones MkIV and some accessories (extra battery, external charger, remote release, L-Plate - all essential for proposed architectural/interior/landscape use).

Question:
How does FE 55 f/1.8ZA compare to EF mount Sigma 50 Art? I suppose former wins on AF performance but since I continue to own 5DIII, it would be nice to have lens(es) that can be used by both bodies. On the other hand, appropriating A7R for general use by taking advantage of its compactness is appealing too - and that would work better with dedicated Sony lenses. Decisions, decisions...

Another question:
FE 35 f/2.8 ZA (to truly take advantage of compactness) or FE 55 f1.8 ZA?
I already own 35L but that could be possibly sold for one of the two lenses...

Decisions regarding lenses would come later since primary use for the A7R would be for use with TS-E lenses. I will promise to post pictures on the thread once I have the A7R than to clutter the thread with posts w/o images, but since I am a professional procrastinator, it would be nice to have something to mull over constantly for who knows how long.

for portrait works, the 55 is a no brainer. if you need wider, 35mm will do. I like both, wished the 35mm had wider aperture but obviously if it did we will lose on compact.

35 is really sharp!

It depends on what you're trying to protect against. If bangs and bumps, a hood is better protection than a filter. A "protection" filter could be useful if you're in an area with blowing sand or salt water.

DXO declared 55FE "the sharpest AF lens they have ever tested." Now that was before 50 Art came out. The problem with 50 Art is it is a bigass heavy lens. If you got A7r because you were tired of carrying your big DSLR gear, then there is no point of putting a big heavy lens on A7r. 55FE is clearly and by far the best FE lens released so far. Also everyone likes every shot taken with it, even my wife who is the harshest critic (but my biggest supporter at the same time). If you only get one FE lens it should be 55FE
