Just sold 5DII and a couple of lenses to a good friend of mine. Enough to fund for A7R, Metabones MkIV and some accessories (extra battery, external charger, remote release, L-Plate - all essential for proposed architectural/interior/landscape use).

Question:
How does FE 55 f/1.8ZA compare to EF mount Sigma 50 Art? I suppose former wins on AF performance but since I continue to own 5DIII, it would be nice to have lens(es) that can be used by both bodies. On the other hand, appropriating A7R for general use by taking advantage of its compactness is appealing too - and that would work better with dedicated Sony lenses. Decisions, decisions...

I think you'de be best to keep your current canon lenses for a bit before going two feet deep into sony lenses. 50mm is a bread and butter people lens. I'm pretty much in the same boat, with different 50's, but after doing some tests, the canon really seems to do a considerably better job with skin tones at higher iso's, even after corrected white balance.

if you're ok with it, then certainly jump to the native lens, but it wont hurt to try it out first.

Another question:
FE 35 f/2.8 ZA (to truly take advantage of compactness) or FE 55 f1.8 ZA?
I already own 35L but that could be possibly sold for one of the two lenses...

I've owned 3 FE lenses: 35FE, 55FE, and 28-70FE. Yes 35FE is somewhat compact and there are advantages to that. On the other hand, if you already have Metabones III/IV adapter, a $120 40/2.8 Canon lens on Metabones adapter, is not much different in terms of length and weight [Just a money saving idea - and cross use with your Canon gear].
40/2.8 is also sharp wide open.

28-70FE is a lens I would not buy again. Enough said.

Another inexpensive solution I wanted to suggest is LA-EA4 adapter + Minolta 70-210/F4 beercan. The lens will cost you under $100 on ebay, it is constant aperture, optics is very good, AF on LA-EA4 adapter is good (nice to use Phase-through-the-mirror AF), the lens is much smaller and lighter than 70-200 dedicated modern lenses, and your total cost would be around $400 or so.

My mind agrees with the high recommendation of the Otus my pocket recommends the Otus mini in the FE 55 f1.8

Wow, thanks for the input, everyone!
David, I'm a big fan of your photos but this time around you have set a bad example, very bad.

I like the idea of Metabones + 40mm Pancake. I do own the Pancake and I am impressed by its performance. It also acts as a ready to shoot anytime body cap for my 5DMkIII due to its compactness. It seems as if it is written in heavens that Canon FF sensor + 50mm combination remains an elusive goal for me (unless if I win a lottery and a purchase of Otus can be taken care of by a monthly interest generated from my savings account).

I'll keep these comments in mind and will consider 55FE if and when I'm ready to commit to native lens for the A7R.

40/2.8 lives on my 5DM3 and I am very happy with the results. and it does not feel that heavy with it

Its the Lloyds building, home of Lloyds of London. more details here (external link)
All the services are on the outside of the building, air con, fire escapes, and lifts (elevators).

Oh my gosh!! Lloyd's of London. What an iconic company. They basically invented the concept of insurance and underwriting.

Haha. And they also happen to be one of the oldest companies in the world. I'm sure that in 600 more years, Lloyd's of London will still be insuring and underwriting everything in existence. Cool piece of world economy and history right there.

I used to be one of the inspectors until I retired. The guy on the left is one of the inspectors still with many years to go before he retires. :D
