If you were only to have 3 prime lenses for crop sensor

22mm f2 on the M
40mm f2.8 on the M or 7D
60mm or 100mm macro on the M or 7D

This is assuming I still get to use an 18-35mm 1.8, the 11-16 f2.8 and my 70-200 II on the 7D when desired

Yea it does seem a bit odd. For indoor non-portrait use the the 35 IS USM is awesome the 18-35 cant match it for this use. The IS on an F2 opens a whole world of new things you can do. On the other hand for indoor portrait/event use the 18-35 is awesome it covers 18 for the wide multi person and 35 std with or without flash. I use it for events where the distance to the subject can be be very limited. Two different tools for two different jobs.

A little too long on the wide end for me. I'd start with a 100mm Macro, then 300 and 600.

My "all primes setup" for the SL-1 would be
EF 20mm f/2.8
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 ART
EF 100mm f/2.0

Maybe the 20mm could be replaced with a Rokinon 14mm but that I have not received as yet so I do not know how usable it is.

I shoot general walkabout stuff, kids over the park, on the beach, few car events/meets etc etc & the odd landscape/sunset.

I get by with a 28/1.8, 50/1.4 & 135L on full frame if we are talking primes. I do have a 17-40L but don't use it that often anymore.

If I was using a crop camera then I'd personally go with the above I've quoted

My first three lenses, back in my film days (late 60's), were 28/2.8, 58/1.7, and 135/3.5, all manual focus. Their crop-factor equivalents are 18mm, 35mm, and 85mm. However, now I expect longer and wider. So, if all zoom lenses magically disappeared from the universe, my 3-prime lens kit would probably be:

10mm/2.8 Rokinon (or perhaps the 8mm fisheye, which I can de-fish when necessary)
35mm/2 Canon or 1.4 Sigma ART
85mm/1.4 Rokinon

The advantage with this kit is that I already own two of them.

As the OP didn't say anything about teleconverters, I might cheat by adding the Kenko 1.4, although the results with the Rokinon 85 would probably be terrible.

I would highly recommend your zoom setup for a crop. Absolutely!

After my own personal experiecnes:
I agreed and disagree with the part about the 24mm and a good zoom combo.

I liked the f1.4 on my 50mm lens, and I like the convience of my 17-55mm zoom.
After much debate and research I saved up and bought the 24L II for my crop.
It was a much wider FOV than my 50 1.4 and did not compromise on speed.
I chose to forgo the 30mm 1.4 lottery and eventual upgraded to the 6D anyway.

For me the 24L II became a replacement for my 17-55mm lens, though that was not my intention. I found myself foot zooming more.
My unused zoom being left in the bag, then at home, and finally sold.
It is the best lens on crop and at times I mess that lightweight and convience combo.

While the 24L II is considerably more expensive than the 30mm 1.4, I have no regrets and no intentions of selling it. It is justified my the many photos I get, wide open or stopped down. It shines.

As far as my choices on prime lenses for crop they would be 24mm, 50mm, and 100mm
This gives you a FOV of 38mm, 80mm, and 160mm respectively. Similar to the 35, 85, 135 FF trio.

You could get the 24mm f2.8, nifty fifty 50mm f1.8, and the 100mm f2 or the 100mm macro f2.8

The zooms have all been sold, when I need longer I toss a converter on the 135mm when I need wider I stitch images with the 22mm.

Answering this question is incredibly difficult for me! I think that if I were forced to shoot only with crop sensors, and I could only have only 3 lenses, and they all had to be primes, I would probably choose:

35mm f1.4
135mm f2
400mm f2.8 IS II

Of course, with only three native focal lengths, I would have to rely on other things to give me some reasonable semblance of versatility. Extension tubes in various lengths, as well as both the 1.4 and the 2x tele-extenders, would help a lot. So would having crop bodies of two different sensor sizes - a 1.3 crop 1D4 along with one of the 1.6 crops.

Three primes on apcs? I couldn't do it. The 14L is way too expensive. Nothing else is wide enough. I guess I'd go 17-40, 35 IS (or 50 1.4), 100 2. Gee, that's what I use on my 6D!

I would get as much variety as possible.

Canon 17mm f/4 TS-E: landscapes/architectur​e - $2200
Sigma 30mm f/1.4A: low light/general - $500
Canon 100mm f/2.8: macro/portrait - $600

The 17mm's shift negates a full frame sensor's advantage over a crop somewhat. Total is about $3300. Swap the 17mm with a Samyang 14mm and you cut the budget by more than half.
