Has anyone paired a 5D Classic and a 50mm 1.8?

Not so worried about noise, as long as it takes a good picture.

Is the 24-105mm lens at 50mm better quality than 50mm 1.8 lens?

See for yourself.

Obviously the 24-105 can only go to f/4, so both are set to f/4 for comparison. Stopped down, the 50mm f/1.8 is a lot sharper at f/4 than it is at f/1.8.

I use my 5Dc and my 50mm 1.8 all the time. It's a great affordable combo.

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone had tried this? Will a 50mm 1.8 lens fit on a 5D Mk I and if so, do the pictures look nice?
Thanks for any help you can give.
Mark.

Heya,

I'm sure most people have paired it with their 5D at some point, unless they already owned a 50 F1.4 of some flavor. Even then, I'm willing to bet that most people that used the 50 F1.8 with their 5D, eventually went ahead and got a 50 F1.4 of some flavor afterwards.

The 50 F1.8 is optically pretty good for it's price. But build quality is not good. It's autofocus is infuriatingly slow (for me) and hunts around. I found I always had to bump it to focus, as in, focus once, then re-focus again, before taking a shot. It's just not built to last. And due to that I think it's over-costed. I'd rather save up a bit more and get a Sigma 50 F1.4 and have a lens that will not only last, but is better in every way. They can be had for like $270.

Very best,

Thanks for the links and pictures. It's great to see such stunning photos from the combination.

I bought the 24-105 anyway to play around with.
