Hey guys Im moving from mark ii to iii soon, I have a question. Do you guys use focus recompose often with this camera or use outer focus points more? Are the outer points as reliable as the center one? Coming from the mark ii I always use the center Af but sometimes its so hard to capture some images with moving subjects like dances in weddings etc. thank you in advance

focus points work well. also if you are using a tripod it's really fun to go into Live View and then you can set a focus point just about anywhere on the screen.

I disable the non-crosstype focus points and feel comfortable that the outer points are as accurate as the Centre point, even with the a "sometimes-tricky-to-focus" lens like the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 ART at f/1.4. I haven't had too much success with focus-recompose at f/1.4 so prefer to choose the focus point I need. Keep in mind that the focus points do not come close to covering the full frame of the image though so sometimes there has to be a compromise. Here is a shot for example with an outermost crosstype focus point with the sigma at f/1.4. RAW screenshot straight from DPP.

Final shot with Crop and LR adjustments (focus is pretty sharp):

I hope this helps.

I always use the outer AF points. Not only they are accurate, they are also placed in a usable pattern (enabling the rule of thirds, e.g.). The latter attribute is what made me pass on the 5DI and 5DII.
