My wife and I went to the summit of Mauna Kea last November to watch the sunset, and for us being Australians, it was bitterly cold up there.

We have never seen snow and were hoping to experience it at the summit. There were snowflakes in the air, but not enough to cover the ground. We are planning to go back back next February, so hopefully the snow will be way more prevalent then.

I did learn though that a 52 year old man like me cant run around chasing the light at that sort of altitude for very long without getting a massive headache. :-(

Still had a ball doing it though….Watching the sunset from a mountain top had a sort of spiritual feel to it.

Same church, (Kauai) but a different take on it. I love Hawaii's old churches and the history surrounding many of them. :-)

Iao Valley, one of my favorites and it took two trips to Maui to find this.

I prefer Pachelbels lesser known work, Canon in L and the 99 cent menu club.

We are moving to Maui in one month! Anyone on this thread local or has recommendations for things to photograph?

On Haleakala you can shoot sunrise, sunset, silverswords, milky way, and even moonrise. On the road to Hana: take your pick on the many waterfalls. I've seen shots on bamboo forest that is very interesting also. If you like big surf, Peahi (AKA Jaws) is also great.

Look at some of my favorite Maui base photographers for some great ideas:

That's funny....your top picture, I swear I took a picture from the same spot a few years ago when I was there. Even recognize the same branches and rocks!

Koko Head, Oahu......If you look closely just before the left hand edge of the mountain you will see a set of stairs that lead all the way to the top....There are 1048 steps in total, and each year before I go back to Hawaii I say I will hike to the top, and then each year I decide not to once I get there....Some things are better left to the young ones.
