Agreed. Not only that, but 61 points seems high for a crop camera. Somewhere around 35-40 seems more realistic. Maybe 45? You can only get them so close together and you can't push them to the edges too far.......or can you ? With a crop camera the distortion at the edges is less....hmmm. I am serious....and don't call me Shirley.

Depends if they're planning on rolling it into the 5dIV or not I suppose. If they are going to redesign the AF system, why constrain your self to the exact number of AF points as before. That being said, I would hope they had optimized the previous 61 point system's point lay out to be the best layout when talking about 60ish points. If so,you'd expect them to come back to the same solution the second time around.

I thought it extended to about where the APS-C crop is, so focus points extending almost to the edge of frame should still be fairly viable on a crop body without distortion issues on most lenses.
