^that's scary to hear that your V600 died, had mine for over 2 years now and scanned numerous 35mm, 120 and even 4x5 in it with no problem.

don't expect leaping improvements by going V700/750, if you want the best then get ready to spend a lot more.
only advantage I see by getting one is that it can scan double the amount as the V600

what format are you shooting mostly?
if only 35mm, I'm finding the Pakon F135+ a pleasure to use

I'm going back and forth between MF and 35mm, mainly MF as I got better resolution on it from my V600. IDK why it died, but I only started to get big into film recently and thus far maybe scanned 100 times with it? I used to scan way more when I first started, however, because I had to figure out what produced the best results.

I am looking into a refurb V700 from epson directly cause I saw they have them for $400. For now it'll hold me over I figure until I can afford an even better scanner.

Polaroid SprintScan 120 (aka Microtek AtrixScan 120tf). THE best deal in scanners, but you've got to find one; they're rare. Also, you need a SCSI or FireWire 400-compatible machine (any Mac can use them in Vuescan, either with a FW400-800 adapter or a FW-Thunderbolt adapter). 4000dpi (real dpi), and outstanding DMax. Downsides? Slow and loud. But has autofocus and will batch scan.

Barring that, the Plustek Opticfilm 120 is $2k, and is easily on par with the 9000ED. The first batch had QC problems, but that has been solved, and Plustek is now hand-testing each and every scanner they ship.

If you're JUST scanning 35mm, the Plustek OpticFilm 8100/8200 scanners are good. They provide ~3600-3800 real dpi in a 7200 dpi scan, but are fully manual (you've got to feed every frame). Also, they stink for slides (poor DMax), but if you're just shooting negative film, they're a good option. Major plus is that they're quite cheap.

Wow that's good to know on plustek's side. Thanks for the recommendation as well, I'll keep an eye out for the Polaroid scanner. wondering what the price is like on that nowadays?

$400-600, if you can find one.
