I am looking at buying a usb 3.0 card reader. Are there better brands/models?

Cheers, Damien

Most known brands have good readers. Kingston, Sandisk, Trancend, Lexar, you can't go wrong with either of them.
There also several less known but still good companies like delkin, sonnet, which still have less than cheap sticker companies bad batches.

damien,
i went though a number of usb 3.0 readers that had problems of varying kinds. the only one that has been faultless for me is the lexar cf/sd reader.

So far the Sandisk USB 3.0 memory card reader works very well for me. The only upside to it (when I got it it was just released) was that I had to use a windows laptop to update the firmware so that my Macbook can be used with it. Kind of ironic i thought!

Does anyone have experience with the Lexar 3.0 readers?

Anker has a nice portable one that's reliable:

If you don't need CF, they also have this one but I haven't tried it:

Ah, I wasn't aware that this was a potential issue. I'm on Mac - does that make any difference?

I got mine a while back. Works on both mac and windows without any need to updates.

The Kingston is very fast. I also have the Transcend one and the Kingston is just a tad faster. I just upgraded both firmware and now they are even faster than before and I can dual copy without slowing down.
