took mine out for the first time yesterday, my arms still hurt, LOL. Definitely bring a tripod or monopod next time. At 600mm it also shows me that I don't have as steady hands as I though.

Managed to get some nice photos of birds and turtles in the pond, nothing online yet, but I'll post a link eventually.

Overall I'm impressed and very happy with the lens. Very sharp when I got the focus right.

I went to Tv and set the camera to 1/1000, f8, and eventually went for auto ISO.

Now I better get my arms in shape :-)

40D, 5D3, a bunch of lenses and other things

This reminds me, I need to MFA my lens on my 6D. I have been so excited to just have the lens that I completely forgot to hit is with adjustments to get it tack sharp like the shots directly above this post.

where is the best link to MFA adjustments? Anyone have any good videos of how to's?

Allow me to ask a daft question. I've read a lot about possible Ai servo tracking issues with Canon cameras (especially 7d and many XXd cameras), is the firmware update I keep seeing posted, something done in the lens by Tamron or does it refer to a Canon firmware update that has been released recently for this lens? I'm still a little worried the Tamron may not track something like a jetski moving towards me using my 7d. Although a jetski will probably be quite contrasty in it's general appearance so this might help I guess. Any help gratefully received :)

I never had any big problems before the update, and after the update no problems tracking, on a 5D3. But I shoot BBIF .... big birds in flight :p Airplanes :)

So you have had the update? Was it simply a Canon download that you did yourself? Btw, do you shoot your BBIF coming directly towards you? (they are quite a bit bigger than LJIW - Little jetski in water)

Had to send the lens to Tamron, it's a Tamron update.
I haven't had any direct, but almost direct a few times yes, with a ~75° intercept angle.

Great, thanks :) Hopefully newer versions of the lens will have the update. Off to the interweb to try and find serial numbers and stuff :d

It was Tamron firmware updates, it has something to so with overall focus in AI servo, if you end up buying now yours will be most likely with the new firmware already, I had issues with my 7d before it went away after the firmware update. Mine was part of the first batch that came early this year.

Thanks again. It's so easy to get wrapped up in negative press, but as you say hopefully the ones we now have in the UK will be of a later batch. I'll see what challenges the exciting industrial estate that Calumet live on, can throw up for my 7D :D

Love seeing Marine Corps BIF. I loved the "trips" in the back of the CH 53's. Sometimes you knew where you were going. Sometimes, not so much.

After a a 9 week wait I received my lens from BH Photo!
Sadly not too many chances to play, but I was able to get out in my yard and get some hummingbird shots. These are not perfect, but I was happy with results overall. I cant wait to get out and find a couple bigger targets!
Thanks for all those that posted making the decision to purchase that much easier!
Paul
