According to the manual, the lens switches automatically to a different mode when it detects panning. It seems to work for me.

Here are two shots from this weekend. Also with VC enabled. The first is as low as 1/25. Beat that :)

Hello,

I want to ask for some info about this lens. I am choosing between the Canon 55-250 STM IS, This tamron, Canon 70-200 f/4L and canon 70-300 IS USM. I shoot maily planes at normal airports but also at airshows. But I will use the lesn also for all other shots like landscapes, nature, trains, cars, etc. It will be probably my primary lens. For me the lopnger the reach, the better, but not for the change of bad IQ. Also need fast AF.
So I want to ask for some things, that people wrote me before to not to buy the Tamron 70-300. I want to ask owners here, if they are right.
1) Tamron is sharp at f/8.0 or more. No on less apertures.
2) Tamron´s has slow VC startup and it blocks AF, so action and fast pictures are almost oimpossible with VC on and it should be turned off.
3) Tamron image quality drops rapidly at 200mm-300mm
4) Possible communication errors of camera and lens, since it is not original.
5) Bigger chance to catch bad copy than with Canon

Thank you very much for help :-)

Greetings fellow czech citizen:)

1) Tamron is very sharp even on open aperture between 70-200. Huge improvement is seen on f/7.1 and it sharpness goes up up to f/10.

2) slow VC kickup doesn´t bother much, because it kicks in only once when you press the button. I personally have this turned on all the time except having my Tammy and camera on tripod.

3) Tamron sharpness and contrast drop is visible >250mm. you need to shot f/7.1. 280mm-300mm is not very good.

4) never had any communication error like with Tammy 17-50. 70-300VC feels very solid, unlike 17-50.

5) I think only first copies were bad, i suggest heavy testing in first days to be able to return it.

I´am selling one sharp and tested copy (some examples on my flickr), if you are intersted. let me know in PM.

I just got a second hand copy of this lens. The zoom ring is a bit stiff but the lens is only 3 months old and in pristine condition. Is this normal for everyone else?

edit: wait a second... Are there two version of this? AF and SP? No right?
