My 16-35 arrived, time to sell the 17-40. Not had a chance to use it yet but took this shot of them side by side.

Had a chance to really put this lens to use this past weekend at a big race and I've very pleased with the results it produced,

16-35 vs 17-40, ISO 100, f/6.3, 1/20. Manual focus on the bolts that are showing in the close up. These are screen captures from the Compare view in Lightroom. Original CR2 files with no color or perspective corrections. The pictures are nothing special, just somewhere I pulled over during a break in the rain. Click for 2034px versions.

I only went once when I first arrived in country during Tet of '68. I wish Saigon had looked like that then :-).

Great comparison Mark. IMO there is more than enough difference in Clarity, Contrast, Saturation and background detail to justify the price difference and make it a worthy upgrade. The CA on the 17-40 is absolutely terrible compared to the 16-35 also. Thanks for posting this. It is now my next purchase.

Stunning shots in general Mast3rChi3f, with this one being a nice standout for me.
