I read an article about the new Sigma (it's in Polish) and suggested price (6990PLN) is a little bit higher than $2000. It's, of course, dependant on currency rate.

Images from El Pedro link comes from Polish website, so I link two articles. Who is interested may try to translate them in google translator.

They also mentioned other new Sigma products: teleconverter 1.4, teleconverter 2.0 and lens 18-300/3.5-6.3.

It's classified as a Sports Lens. Perhaps I need to trade up from my Tamy.

Might be classified as a sports lens but at F5-6.3 probably no.

It'll all come down to the IQ. If the IQ is stunning, it'll sell. If it's not, then the tamron will eat it's lunch.

Yeah, a high-iso "noontime" sports lens.

It's a field sport lens for daytime. Having 150-600 all in one lens is very handy for kids football, soccer, etc...

The samples I've seen from the tamron for football during the day look great.

I'd still probably take the 120-300 over this. I mean ya the 120-300 w/ 2X probably doesnt' come close to a real 150-600 but you have the option to remove the TC or put a 1.4x on and you get all sorts of options

I rented one(Tammy) for 2 days and shot all kinds of things-even some daytime football and was quite disappointed except from 150-250.Could have had a bad one thought.

Using the 2x on mine doesn't have that big of an impact on IQ- I'd bet it ends up being better than this new lens...

I want to know about this 1.4tc that offers AF at f8...I could go 2X, and 1.4X, and still have AF?

I hope it goes well so the guys with the 50-500 and 150-500 put theirs up for sale so I can pick one up at a decent price.

If they continue their current trend of producing quality lenses I think there is going to be a lot of used telephoto zooms up for grabs.

I was hoping to pick up a Canon 200-400 at the Boxing Day sales this year to take to Africa in 2015. This new Sigma might save me a truckload of cash.

I'd probably be using it with an external 1.4 quite often making it a f/5.6 280-560 with the option of flicking the switch to f/8 392-784.

If this new Sigma goes alright with a 1.4 and will still autofocus on my 1DX it will be hard to justify the extra $8000 for the Canon.

I'm pretty realistic about the fact you get what you pay for and know the Canon will be of a higher standard than this new Sigma but I will definitely be keeping an eye on it.

I've seen samples on here with that 120-300 with the 2x converter in the "lab" and it looked very good. As good or better than the Tamron. Only issues are the price (quite expensive) and it's also like 8lbs before a converter.

Also I don't know I'd use below 500-600 that much at all. Maybe for larger mammals or maaaybe for portraits, but I'd rather use a 135 F/2 or 85 1.4 instead.
