I'd be 100% in the 5D MkIII camp. No questions ifs and or buts.
The only reasonably priced alternative IMHO is a used 1D4

I own both and reach for the 5D3 most often. It's a do all body.
The 1D4 wins on frame rate, lag, and heft :)

I have a 5DIII and a 1DIII that Id say are my fave cameras from what I have. I like my 7D IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS but sometimes I really want the frames per second and reach for 1DIII. As well as that there is something about the look of the 1D series camera files that I love. Im still tossing up weather to get the next 7D or a 1D4. Time will tell, I will need a lot of positive reviews on the 7DII if it even exists before I will buy it. 1D4 for me has proven reviews and Id love that camera, its just that right now they are so expensive. I had 5DII and 7d combo and was not that happy with it

As usual, I'm going against the grain.

First, I hated the 7d and wouldn't take one if it was given to me. I'd just sell it here.

Second, having owned the 1d3, 1d4 and 5d3, my experience differs from most here. I think the 1d4 is a superb camera, absolutely one of Canon's best in all areas. The1d3 was close, but lacked resolution when I needed to crop. The 5d3 was not an action camera for me though. Mine wouldn't track for **** - anything or ever. I ried every tweeking I could think of, played with all the AF settings and modes, but none helped. I also, as mentioned previously, found it to be under powered for driving the big lenses. Maybe I had a bad one, don't really know. That said, for my work of waterfowl, there was no way I would touch it. Hence, the 1Dx and 1D4 combo.

I will say, should the 7d2 be released and be impressive, I will likely sell the 1d4 as I do feel like it is little too close to the 1dx for "reach"purposes. However, the 7d2 would have to have better IQ, better high ISO and better weather sealing than the current 1d4 has and I don't think that is likely to happen.

Shot with them all. I would get the 5DIII instead of the 7D and the 5DII. The 5D3 tracked as good as my 1Dx. In fact, I am thinking about getting another one.

Hey everyone. I need some opinions. I'm currently shooting with a 5DMKII. I Love it but I'm missing a lot when it comes to sports.(AF and FPS). I'm trying to decide which would be the better choice, just buy a 5DMKIII or keep shooting with my 5DMKII and buy a used 7D for sports. What do you all think. Any advice is appreciated 😊

A few years back I was looking to add a full frame body to go along with my 7D. When comparing the 5D Mark II to the 7D there were to many differences that I knew would be bugging me. First the grip, lack of View Finder Grid Display and the AF System and button layout of the 5D Mark II would cause me hesitation. So I bought a second 7D which I still own today
If only Canon could squeeze the Full Frame with the 7D body.
Well they did. The 5D Mark III. Since using it almost exclusively since Christmas, I would think you can figure out my suggestion. Like others have said, I am thinking of grabbing another Mark III.
