Coming from a 50D, the 70D has amazing noise levels in raw.

Indoors it seems as if though my 70D is constantly at 6400 and the pictures don't look bad at all. The noise is fine and not that distracting. I don't like to use noise reduction since it softens things so I'm wondering if I should use it for any reason? I don't print almost at all but might in the future.
Film used to have grain and no one seemed to really notice.

Use NR if you want to, don't use it if you don't want to. My point is, they are YOUR photos. If you like them without NR, don't use it :)

Likewise comparing my 50D to my very humble 700D. What a difference a few years make.

That's exactly what I was comparing it to as well. Now that I go back and look, the 50D is pretty decent but I just somehow notice noise less with 70D.

Talley&Davenn : OP just bought a new camera and he´s happy about it and you start talking about how great 6D/5dmkIII is comparing to 70D.... Really nice attitude guys, i hope you all feel more secured now.

OP: Enjoy your new camera with modern crop sensor. I tell you i rather take my own 70D on lowlight events with 1.6 crop advantage, where i expect heavy cropping, than 5dmkIII from work...

I'm not sure why we don't adapt a slogan that Anandtech posts used to be filled with: "Pics or it didn't happen." I would think the statement would be even more applicable in a photography forum.

Interesting thread, I do not think the noise levels of this camera are very impressive at all. As a matter of fact, I think they are only marginally better then my previous 60D. 3200+ and I see a large amount of noise/grain.

same thing can be said about any current Canon DSLR..... There are lot of pictures, which proves the fact, that any DSLR can shoot above ISO 3200 nowdays...

my shot with 70D ISO 6400, quick PP....

ANY camera looks horrible on 100% crop above ISO 6400, especially without proper exposure and available light.
