I haven't used my 17-40 at all since I bought this lens. Its just so much sharper, its unreal how sharp this lens is.

Looking at getting this lens and a rear shift adaptor for panorama's.

Realistically how far can you shift it before you get the soft corners people seem to mention.

Camera will be a A7R with a metabones III (flocked)

Also, am I right in thinking this lens will experience uneven skies with a polariser?

I used to shift all the way for panos. It does get softer at the extremes but no worse than the 17-40 in the corners, never so bad I have felt I can't use it. The biggest problem with full shift is vignetting in the extremes. With your a7r you should be able to sort that easily though. On my 5d2 I would raise the exposure on selected areas in post or take 2 exposures and blend the brighter one into the corners. With the a7r you should be able to just lift the exposure without worrying about noise etc

I never experienced any funny skies with a polariser. Only ever had that on the 17-40
