Decided to sell the TS-E 17 and pick up one of these to try out for a little while. Hoping I will actually get a bit more use out of it (weather sealing is always my concern when considering carrying the TS-E into the wild.) I just snagged one used on Amazon for $1,000 even.

I can expect to handhold this for 30 seconds or so with a Big Stopper, right?

You can handhold the 16-35 for almost 1/2s if your hands are steady. I've done it.
Having said that, it's probably not the ideal way to go unless you really have to. hehehe.

Definitely. It'll be a nice little surprise if it shows up, haha.

I figure the 1/2 second IS plus the higher ISOs on the 6D will make a pretty great combo.

Just ordered my own EF 16-35mm f/4 L IS USM today; I'm upgrading from a 17-40 which has always been a good lens, but looking for the image stabilization to help without tripod. Just have to wait for brown to deliver it on Tuesday....

I just reserved this lens from Lens Rental for 14 days for a trip to Maine, Nova Scotia and the Finger Lakes area of NY. Leaving in two weeks for my one big adventure a year the wife lets me go on.

I'm excited to see how this one does for travel as well.

That said, have you ever considered picking one up at retail and then simply selling it after your trip instead of renting? With a lens as new as this, it wouldn't be out of the question at all to get 90-95% of your purchase price back.
