I think your skipping a huge category, enthusiasts. There are a lot of photographers out there with 40/50/60/7/70Ds who have been longing for an upgrade.

Not meaning to nitpick (especially since I agree with your general point), but I doubt that many photogs with a 70D that are already 'longing' for an upgrade :p

Hey I am really old now and time has no meaning! Oh now I see 91-94. ;)
Well my wife says I have Alzheimer's and I use that as my excuse all the time.
Oh and my sons STILL call me that.

And I am going to use the Alzheimer's excuse when I order the 7D II and forget to tell her. ;)

mine calls me ATM
she has that name for me in her phone

I agree, but thats a big candidate list. I'm wondering if present 7D owners will upgrade as well.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

--Rebel, X0D, 7D upgraders

Birders, sports and wildlife shooters absolutely. Multi-media maybe (due to the Video AF). PJs, I doubt it.

Likely too expensive for moms/dads. Most (not all, of course) of them will stick with the 70D or TXi series.

At $1799, they are hitting the price point. It's a nice offering at that price.

The sensor geek in my is disappointed, though. New micro-lenses, doesn't mean new sensor. Now, if you eliminate CFA and use a micro-lens prism to split the light to each pixel, then maybe you have a new sensor. But even that's borderline. Both can give gains, though. So we will see.

The thing that's bothering me, is that the 70D dual pixels were said to have created additional gaps between the pixels. When it was released, though being a new sensor, it only slightly improved on the 60D. If this helps them realize the full potential of the sensor, then great, but it's still the 70D sensor.

It will be extra photons, though. That's the best way to get signal. I wonder what the efficiency increase will be.

I'm still trying to watch all of the reviews. I really want to want a new DSLR.

I read somewhere that they also improved the sub-pixel color filters to improve their light transmission. So no, it's not the 70D's sensor; it's a variation on it.

I'm a 7D owner and I absolutely plan to. I've had my 7D for about 3 years now, it's been awesome and this one has enough additional features that I can easily justify this as a good upgrade. I'll use the new one as my primary camera body for motorsports and the Mark 1 as my second body / backup.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Yeah, I noticed that Matt can't focus. Blame the photographer. It can't be the camera, aye.

Didn't he say something about the model he shot with being a preproduction version?

I didn't see anything wrong with the model, indicating that she was a preproduction model. By the way - we normally don't talk about if the models are produced before marriage. :p

^^ Well gee that escalated rather quickly..

Anyways I'm still looking forward to seeing RAW files at various ISOs from this camera. I'm hoping (but not holding my breath) that at least the sensor in the 7d2 has on-chip ADC which would help out IQ quite a bit over previous sensors and iterations.

I am probably getting confused with the sheer amount of videos pouring into the interweb. I need a lie down and half an hour on my Etch-a-sketch.

I like the looks of it. I will probably switch from my 6D to the 7D II. I like the dual card slots, better build, 65 point AF, and build quality. My kids are getting older now and are getting more into sports and I'm doing less and less portrait style of photos so I think this will be perfect for me.

Well you could always hold on to your 6D and get the 7d2. :) Although I'm not sure I would readily give up the 6D in exchange for the 7d2 if budget were a concern.
