Interesting timing of this thread. Just a couple days ago I picked up (again) a 5Dc. I took advantage of Ebay's 5x Ebay bucks (10%), and found a newly listed 5D in very good shape.
I've already received it, looks great, works perfectly and it came with 4 batteries, 2 chargers, strap, and 2 x 16GB 266x Kingston CF cards. All for about $380 after my Ebay bucks. For that image quality that's a steal.

This is why I kept mine. I just couldn't see letting it go for peanuts.

Does anyone know how the 5D compares to the 1Ds II with regard to that film sort of look some of you mention?

Heya,

I still shoot a 5D classic. Great for portrait. It's all I use it for. Has that look that hasn't really been replicated, if you like that more film-like look. There's just something about the 5D's files.

I wouldn't get it for landscape. I do tons of landscape, and I use my APS-C's for it instead. Live View is a big deal to me in landscape. And higher resolution is also very helpful when doing landscapes. So I don't use mine for landscape at all. Purely portrait at this point with my 5D. My landscape, macro, wildlife, astro, etc, are all done on APS-C's instead.

Very best,

I think you believe that about the 5D because you want to not because images from it are any more special than later models.

A while back I was thinking about moving 7d to 5d3 but with announcement of 7d2 it may be I wait a while.

Question is for a cheap full frame for messing about with how's does the original 5D stack up.

It will be landscape and portrait duty and probably with 17-40 and new 35 f2 is.

I can probably get a clean one for about £350ish in uk.

I know it won't have all bells and whistles but really just interested in iq

Any thoughts please?

Rob

Im currently in the process of deciding whether to try full frame with the 5D as the prices are quite reasonable.im after a 50mm for my 70d but Im not a fan of the 50mm lenses for canon on crop so was thinking of using my 85mm 1.4 or tamron on a 5d instead.

The only thing stopping me is that ive only just finished paying for my 70d and dont know whether its silly having two bodies as an amateur.

Decisions, decisions....
