Why couldn't they copy Sigma's latest 50mm instead?

i doubt this will be the final price. i only see one seller on taobao (chinese ebay) where usually there'll be hundreds of sellers selling the same thing. i'd say price is TBD but given yongnuo's speedlight prices (which i love), this is very interesting:D

They would have to build a usb dock too so that it can focus correctly.

if they can offer a lower price product with better rendering, that'll be really embarrassing

If it has better rendering, then it's no longer a copy - just another mediocre 50mm lens of original design.

So they chose to copy one that cant focus accurately with no means to fix it, and that has a tendency to die completely after a while?

I guess so. I don't use the 50 1.4. I used the 50L and it was nothing short of amazing.

Did you look at the picture? It is more than just similarly shaped.

Have you tried the Sigma 50/1.4 Art, the Zeiss 55 Otus or the Sony 55/1.8? The Canon 50/1.2 looks pretty crummy next to those...

The sigma is crap, the Zeiss doesn't AF, the sony is slow and the canon is amazing.
