Does anyone use the older Tamron 90mm macro lens? The one without VC. How is it and is it an annoyance that the lens extends when focusing? The price is definitely right. Thank you.

I still use one- it's very sharp and I don't have any problem with extending lenses anyway.

+1 to the satisfies users list :)
The protruding front can take a while to get used to, but you'll figure it out after you've bumped a few subjects

I have one because the price was right ($68.00 to be exact). I bought a cheap lens hood for it. Still learning to use it effectively.

It was a bargain quality at KEH. They don't have one at the moment. The glass was fine, it just had some worn paint numbers on the barrel. Even their EX+ ones are only about $100. Of course you need the adaptall 2 also, but I got that for $20 off fleabay. Add lens cap and hood and it was still < $ 100.

The Tamron 90MM F/2.8 SP 1:1 Adaptal lens was succeeded by the Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di SP A/M 1:1 Macro with the newest version being the Tamron SP 90mm VC lens. For further confusion I believe there was also a 90mm F/2.5 lens that existed. Yes, that sounds to be 4 distinctly generations of lenses.

Whenever I want to know about the quality of any given lens I will copy the entire full name of the specific lens in to google followed by "MTF" to read a thorough review about resolving power and image quality.

Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di SP A/M 1:1 Macro

OT -- Lens names are getting longer and longer. Can you beat Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR Di LD Aspherical (IF)?

Sony RX10 IV, Canon 7D2, Canon 90D, assorted Canon lenses

That one is pretty astounding in length. Maybe they can just start calling them the "2014 version" or the "2015 sport model" like with cars :)
