Never seen one of these before and I'm not going to lie...it spooked me out. I was using my 50mm with a few tubes in the backyard and spotted this Wheel Bug just before coming inside.

I think the bright orange here is the scent gland from what I was looking up.

Apparently these are good to have in the garden as they eat other pests. I did read that they can yield a nasty bite so I'm glad I kept it off my hand for photos.

Side note:

I have finally ordered a macro lens to try my luck without using stacked tubes. I went with a Tamron 90mm AF 2.8 Di SP A/M 1:1...phew long name. I read some nice things about it and it was affordable. I'm really hoping it will allow me to progress a bit in my macro stuff.

Thank you all! I knew the first was the best just because it captured more of the Wheel Bug. I was trying to get detailed shots of the entire body but was having a hard time cause he wouldn't stay still.

Silly question for anyone using the Tamron 90mm or that knows more about it than I...

Will the Tamron 90mm work with a FF body or is it solely for the crops? I will be keeping it on a crop body but I was curious. I'm also curious if I would get any fun in adding any macro tubes to it while shooting.I just can't wait for it to arrive. It'll be here a few days before my October 2 week vacation and I want to take it with me on the road.

Great shots! I have that model of macro lens as well as the newer version. Have not used it on full-frame, but had it mated to my crop Canon for a very long time and loved it.

It arrived! Well, the UPS guy never knocked so he left a note saying they would try again tomorrow, but I tracked him down and got it instead of waiting.

Of course, I can't find any buggies in the backyard when I want to. Only this fella for a few seconds...

I felt like a jerk. I'm off from work today. I'm waiting, checking tracking, waiting...

So I go look at the porch(it's rare for them to leave it there vs the side door), and I see a box and a sticker on the door. At first I think "yay it's here" and then I see they left another package and a note saying I had to sign for my lens and they would try again tomorrow. I got no knock, note doorbell, nada. So I called UPS at they gave me the drivers number and I called and he was only a few neighborhoods away.

Now I get to enjoy the rest of my day.

Congrats on the new lens! And you can still use it with tubes, since you've already got those. :)
